India opposes Chishti’s travel to Pakistan
Tuesday, May 08, 2012 - New Delhi—The Indian government has opposed granting permission to Dr. Khalil Chishti to travel to Pakistan. The Supreme Court of India heard Dr. Chishti’s case on Monday.
During proceedings the counsel for the Indian government argued that if Dr. Chishti was granted permission to travel to Pakistan he would not return to India.
The apex court said it would like to consider Chishti’s plea in view of the special circumstances of his case.
The bench said Chishti was an eminent scientist of global repute and is 82 year old with no previous criminal record and the issues involved are the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned till Thursday.—SANA
