Poetry competition at FJWU

Thursday, March 08, 2012 - Rawalpindi—In order to commemorate the importance of International Women’s day, Radio VOW FM 96.6 at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organized a poetry competition.

Dr. Naheed Zia Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor, Dean Faculty of Law, Management and Administrative Sciences and Chairperson Radio Editorial Board was chief guest on this occasion.

The Judges were Ms. Mehmooda Ghazia and Nadeem Fakhar while chairpersons, faculty and students were present at the event. Welcome address was given by Dr. Shamim Zaidi, Incharge Radio VOW. She recited a few verses from her collection.

The theme of the competition was “Aurat Paikar-e-Azm”. Students from different departments participated in the competition. Umm-e-Kulsoom of Department of Communication and Media Studies, Sadia Batool of Environmental Sciences, Memoona Najam of MPA and Saira Iqbal of Computer Arts secured first second and third positions respectively. As the results were being compiled, the judges were asked to recite their verses regarding Women’s Day.

Dr. Naheed Zia Khan said that women need to know their potential and their rights and we are fortunate enough that we did not need to struggle for the rights as the western women had to.—APP
