Neocon version of sacrifices

Monday, February 20, 2012 - I had no idea that the Newsweek has started a Pakistan Edition till today, when I found a copy of this new publication; with a bold title page heading “The War on Christians” in a book shop . Inside the cover the feature is titled “ The Rise of Christianphobia”, a term invented as if in justification of Islamophobia which as is evidenced from the writings in the Western media first surfaced in the West in the early eighties, probably due to the success of Khomeini’s Islamic Revolution and strong reaction to Anwar Sadat’s Camp David agreements. The Gulf War, the American onslaught on Iraq, the War in Afghanistan were the events which led to the birth of terrorism. Earlier creation of Israel as is admitted by the historians sowed the seeds of anti-Western-ism in the Muslim world , What is being witnessed now is an anti-West phenomena not an anti-Christian one, and what is happening in the Middle East, in Asia and in Africa cannot be lumped together.

In the Middle East it is imposition of Israel reminiscence of settling the accounts of the Christian’s defeat in Crusades is looked upon. Black out of the entire recent history in the West itself which accounted for the new wave of animosity against the west has been blanketed in this article of Newsweek. No Muslim can be anti-Christianity which as is his belief is a Devine religion, To equate anti-west wave with Christianphobia is highly incorrect. Anti-West yes, Christianphobia no. One can check the number of Muslims Bush’s wars and now Obama’s war in Afghanistan . Could it be about 10,000 and destruction of cities, and incidents of Abu Gharib have added to this wave of anti-West. No one would describe these neo-colonialist acts as Christian acts or just starts writing on the phenomenon as inter religious wars but neo- colonial acts of war.

Characterization of Islam as the threat to th West was first voiced by most eminent American leaders as Nixon and Clinton and top scholars Bernard Lewis and Samuel Huntington in his “Clash of Civilization” It is the sober American journals like Time Magazine, Economist, wrote alarmist articles on “Islamism” as the new threat to the West much before 9/11 tragedy. London’s Daily Mail commenting on then a recent book on Crusades wrote “ The author sheds light on … how the crusades helped to shape relations between Christians and Muslims to this day.

We are clearly entering a new phase of an old war” Or when the French General conquering Damascus in the First World War went to Saladin\s grave, put his foot on his grave and said We are here Sladin” No Muslim leader of note ever spoke of the current Islamophobia as Crusades before the Christian leaders did. Muslims want coexistence West uses ultra modern weapons of mass destruction against Muslims. Recent conquest of Ghaddafi by factually NATO and his brutal murder will make him a martyr as the dust in Libya settles down. In American press fire brand Trry Jones have burnt the Holy Quran and spoke of attack on Ka’ba even.

This is the first time the terminology Christianphobia has been launched. It seems to be in defence of the neo-con crusaders . The high light is on the topic like “Among the Thugs” – on the recent Cairo protests which have taken a turn gaianst the American expectations by some Schedrman – Egypt’s War on the NGOs by Sarah A Topol- Shakil Afridi the CIA mole who worked as a cover doctor in tracing Bin Ladin by Sami Yusufzai and Ron Moreau- and the Star Item “The Role of CHRISTOPHOBIA second heading “ From one end of the Muslim World to the other Christians are being murdered for their faith by a Somalian women who is said to be a Somalian who sought asylum in Denmark – and other additives on general topics. The aim of the magazine is in the mind of its producer a reply to Islamophobia and as can be seen counter charge against Muslims to what the US and West has done since the Gulf War. Pakistan is the intellectual the most vocal centre of the Muslim causes being involved in the so-called War on terror.

Let the first item that need to be examined about its veracity is “Christophobia” The Charge is (a) from one end of the Muslim world to the other , Christiians are being murdered for their faith. This is a false claim.

The first flow in this assertion is that all the Christians who have been murdered are lumped for one reason – their faith. Take Pakistan first: Majority of Christians in Pakistan are converts from what used to be Hindu “untouchables” not all but majority. Compare their lot in Pakistan with Indian untouchables, as most of them are still sweepers and engaged in menial work, There is no untouchable in Pakistan because of Islamic practice of social code. In the locality in which they have built their houses and small shops, one can find several suzukis which some of them ply as Taxis for earning their livelihood. In India no such sight can be seen. This is an indication of their so-called “misery”. They have their church built with Christian countries financing. No one is killed for being Christian, once very rarely there might be some individual incidents against which the Pakistani community and press stand up. There were more inter Muslim killings than any Christian killings.

The Blasphemy Law punishes any disrespectful behaviour or words against any common ( Biblic) prophets not only the Prophet of Islam (SAWS). It is not Christian specific. Both Salman Taseer ( Muslim, a Governor) and Bhatty ( a Catholic, Federal Minsiter ) were murdered by extremists. The attacks in Africa, Middle East and Asia have different origin and should not be lumped together as Christian phobia. There is a long historic background. According to the UN , Muslims are in great majority in Africa, followed by animists followed by Christians. although as one goes down the South Muslims are in a great minority but Africa is the only Muslim continent. The Western powers are hand in glove with the Church in trying to convert Muslims to Christianity and there are very aggressive missionary organization who by their extreme aggressive posture, insulting words about Islam and Holy Prophet created Muslim –Christian friction. During my posting in Nigeria I met some of them and since my Ph D is on Africa and I have seen most of Africa from north to South and East to West about 30 countries I am aware of this problem . Muslim interest in Africa would be coexistence between Muslims and Christians and not sharpening inter-faith bad feelings. But unfortunately Israel plus Western powers are stoking animosity between Muslims and Christians. The radical movement Boko Haram is born out of this conflict. It is not Christianphobia. It is a reaction against the ttempts to convrt Africa a Christian majority continent. It is Christians right to preach Christianity but they should avoid the tactics I personally witnessed during my three years stay in Nigeria

In Africa during colonial Era the Muslims were denied education, - most schools were run by Missionaries- who would accept a Muslim if he changed his religion or adopted a Christian name. Muslims were down trodden. arms , factories were owned by the white, retail business by Indians, Syrians or Lebanese Christians , African muslim was labourer only even though majority of population was Muslim

The highly slanted and doctored accounts of the Muslim reaction to use of hostile religiosity, or propagandistic accounts trying to convert neo-cons or neo-crusaders version of events into a martyr’s account , is to say the least not only a bloated propaganda in justification of Western colonialist adventures in the former play ground of imperialist powers but not journalism.
