SPELT international teacher training conference

Friday, October 14, 2011 - Karachi—The 27th International ELT Conference of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) will commence here from October 14.

The three-day event is being organised in collaboration with Habib Public School and the Oxford University Press (OUP) Pakistan.

The English Language Teachers (ELT) professionals and experts from across the globe and Pakistan will be making their presentations and participate in this conference.

The keynote address on ‘Performance Art and Language Teaching’ is to be delivered by renowned expert Peter Grundy of University of Vienna, and Durham University, UK, at the inaugural session.

Eminent ELT personalities will talk on a wide array of topics such as Building Bridges: Turning on Learning A Proactive Approach, The Teacher as a Quadrilateral, Pakistani English Revisited, Passionate Teachers Compassionate Schools, Building our Own Bridges and many others. Once again, the SPELT 27th Conference features some exciting sessions and touches upon key areas for professional development of teachers in the vital field of English language teaching.

The conference also includes symposiums on writing and grammar, I.T Village, book launches and signature sessions by Oxford University Press, Cambridge ESOL, and British Council. For the past 5 years the SPELT conference also includes an Urdu strand.

This year, the Oxford University Press has curated sessions for the Urdu Strand. Scholars and luminaries such as Dr. Tariq Rehman, Dr. Asif Farrukhi, Dr. Asifa Syeda Zehra are presenting and conducting the plenaries.

Over 1,000 teachers from schools, colleges, universities, other academic institutions are expected to attend.—APP
