Obama and substandard pavers..!

Robert Clements

Tuesday, August 09, 2011 - Poor Barack Obama. There he is trying to clean up the mess made by the Republicans and the same Republicans try to stop him from doing so. After all if he does manage to bring America out of the hole it’s fallen into, he will win the elections and that’s something they don’t want.

So they make it more and more difficult for him to bring the country out of the muck they themselves have created. In a colony in Mumbai, the residents decided to use paver blocks on their internal roads. After a lot of scrutiny and studying the different kind of blocks available, they decided to go in for a manufacturer they felt could deliver the goods, and he did.

Like all housing colonies delays took place and the second part of the order was placed a little later. The secretary of the colony also found that he could not get along with the owner of the paver block company, so called the supervisor over, and told him that the next part of the order coming to around two million rupees would be given to him, if he could get a firm that would make them at the same old rate.

The supervisor with an eye on a fast buck, did just that; he went across to a tiny suburban factory, used substandard material and got the job done. And every year fungus grows from those pavers, not from the first lot but from the second, people slip and fall by the dozen but guess who makes the biggest noise?

The former secretary who ordered the substandard pavers! “Why is the place so slippery?” he shouts. “You must change the committee, they can’t do anything for you!” he tells the people. So the committee went to the people, “We need money to clean the blocks every year.

We will have to increase your monthly outgoings!” “No!” shouted the former secretary and his stooges, “You cannot increase the outgoings, but you have to clean the paver blocks!” And that is exactly what Obama was told in America. “Clean the country!” “Clean the mess!” “Bring us out of this financial depression!” “I need money!” says Obama quietly.

“No!” scream the Republicans. But in a democracy, it is for the people to see through this charade, to understand what is happening and to understand the real culprits. When we can’t discern who the actual villains are, then we lose good men, at the hands of ruthless politicians. But, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Democracy is all about looking behind rhetoric and slogans and finding the truth. When you don’t you slip and fall on substandard pavers..!
