Hammad Siddiqui, Senior Program Manager, CIPE formally inaugurated the EDC at Islamabad Chamber. Mahfooz Elahi, President ICCI, Executive Members of ICCI and other business leaders were also present on the occasion.
Hammad Siddiqui said that CIPE has been actively engaged with chambers and associations in the country for over 5 years and have supported projects worth approximately US $ 200,000.
“The EDC at Islamabad Chamber is one of the key projects that CIPE foresee will promote entrepreneurial culture in Pakistan”, he said and added that the ICCI is one of the key reform partners for CIPE since 2007.
Under CIPE grant the chamber had established Young Entrepreneurship Forum which has been an active forum for promotion of young entrepreneurs in the country.
The management of the universities was also very keen to work with ICCI through its EDC and has started meetings to work out a strategy to create strong linkage for entrepreneurship development, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahfooz Elahi said that ICCI would further create strong linkages with the universities, with whom MOUs have already been signed for inculcating entrepreneurial spirit in youth, holding business plan competitions and undertaking research activities on micro and small scale project.
He further said that ICCI and CIPE have long term relationship which would develop the culture of entrepreneurship in the region.
The main purpose of establishing the EDC was to provide complete business setup guidance and solutions to prospective entrepreneurs, especially youth and deprived economic class.
Various training programs for skill development and capacity building in differed areas would also be organized at EDC. ICCI has made sure sustainability of project by providing its continued support to help grow business and economic activities in the Federal Capital.The research activities of EDC would also be uploaded on the website of the Chamber which was updated on daily basis. —APP
