Your neem tree..!

Sunday, July 03, 2011 - Most of us go home with lots of homework! No, I’m not talking about office work we take home, I speak about the cares and worries, fights and quarrels, bitter experiences that we’ve had during the day, that we walk home with. And when we go home whatever problems we’ve had during the day, builds even more tension into our relationships with our family.

“Look daddy has had a bad day in office!”“How do you know?” “He’s grumbling about there not being enough salt in the food!” One day I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job, a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient old scooter refused to start.

I decided with all these troubles I’d drive him home and while I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On reaching his place he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he paused briefly at a Neem tree, touching the tips of the tree, just outside his door. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave them a kiss. Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier. “Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and children.”

“You’re right!” I said, “But how do you handle that?” “I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again. “Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before!” Now I’m sure all of you don’t have a Neem Tree to hang your troubles on when you enter your place every night, but what about a small box outside, or even your door post; practice taking all your troubles off your mind and hanging it outside before you enter your home!”

“It’s such a joy when daddy comes home!” “All our cares and worries disappear when he enters, doesn’t it?” If only they knew that their dad or mom, hang their cares out on the door post, your Neem tree, before you enter your home..!
