Karachi—The Citizens Police Liaison Committee’s (CPLC) role is pivotal for curbing the heinous crimes especially the kidnappings for ransom and extortion. The CPLC has performed diligently in association with other law enforcement agencies especially Sindh Police’s different departments, the CTD, AVCC, SIU, etc; The public-friendly project of the CPLC, the Neighbourhood Care Project (NCR) that keeps working round the clock is the real manifest of dedication and efficiency of the CPLC as this NCR has achieved great success in the eradication of crimes at street levels.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan expressed these views on the occasion of his visit to the CPLC where the CPLC Chief Zubair Habib briefed the Governor about operations of the CPLC, Friday. On the efficacy of the NCR, the Governor lauded the CPLC for taking care of parks and issues of cleanliness besides gigantic efforts for the eradication of crime. One such public service by the CPLC is the construction of public toilettes on which the Governor urged upon the CPLC to extend this facility near hospitals, parks and shopping centres and prepare a feasibility report in this regard as soon as possible.
This project is also tackling the issues of cleanliness, improvement of Parks and solution of problems regarding civic amenities and as such there was an urgent need to replicate this project to other parts of Karachi, he added.
The Governor while taking the role of police for the eradication of crimes from the port city of Karachi urged upon the CPLC to take initiatives for constituting a Quick Response Force (QRF) as part of steps for the community policing mechanism having jurisdiction over a small area so that the QRF could respond rapidly in case of any emergency.
Dr Ebad having briefed about the contribution of the CPLC as regard to curbing the crime rate appreciated the CPLC. It would be pertinent to mention that the CPLC has till date resolved 1329 cases and busted 296 gangs involved in kidnappings for ransom. The CPLC has also helped nabbed 1131 suspects. In 2015, the CPLC had resolved 22 cases of kidnappings for ransom and arrested 96 kidnappers.
On the menace of cell phone snatching, which is the sole major crime that occurs routinely on Karachi’s streets, the Governor also lauded the CPLC for playing a vibrant role. The CPLC has so far managed to register 1309 FIRs in various police stations of Karachi.
