According to a report, water at hospitals in Karachi – Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Child Health (NICH) and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) – has been found unfit for human consumption.
The samples showed presence of a high amount of coliform bacteria. The major reason is, the pipeline supplying water to these hospitals was the same and presence of these germs indicated mixing of water with sewage in the system. Water is not just being used in operation theatres, but also by patients and their attendants for drinking.
The Health Department was informed in writing about the matter over a month ago, but apparently nothing has been done about it. I request the health authorities of Sindh to take a considerate action into the matter.
