Lahore—By the personal efforts and special initiative taken by the Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department Punjab, Najam Ahmad Shah, the Cardiac Unit of Mayo Hospital has become fully operational, where Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Raja Pervaiz Akhtar conducted eight successful bypass operations within a week.
This was disclosed by the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Amjad Shehzad, here today. He said that efforts are being carried out for maximum utilization of treatment facilities of different specialties available in the tertiary care hospitals and for this purpose Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Punjab Najam Ahmad Shah took concrete steps for the up-gradation of Cardiac Unit of Mayo Hospital, and renowned Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Raja Pervaiz Akhtar has been appointed in the Cardiac Unit, who has performed eight successful cardiac bypass operations within a week.
Dr. Amjad Shehzad further said that Punjab government has provided a new heart and lung machine at a cost of Rs.80 million to the cardiac unit, which has been installed. Moreover, 100 angioplasty procedures of poor patients had carried out free of cost during the last three months, on which Rs.20 million has been spent. Medical Superintendent further informed that first time in the healthcare delivery system three cochlear plants have been inserted to the deaf patients in ENT Department free of cost. The market value of these three devises is Rs.6 million.
