Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Perry Calderwood said on Thursday that Pakistan and Canada had a vast scope to work together to further strengthen economic relations.
Addressing a meeting at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), he said that private sectors of the two countries should promote trade, investment and economic partnership in the areas of mutual interests.
Canada was keen to boost mutual trade ties with Pakistan, he said and vowed to make efforts to remove all hurdles from the way of promoting mutual trade ties between both the countries.
The Canadian HC also pledged full support and technical assistance to ensure easy access of Pakistan business community to international Canada trade markets. He said that both of the countries had been enjoying cordial trade relations.
Perry Calderwood said that Canada was making all-out sincere efforts to establish strong Business-to-Business contacts and People-to-People linkages. He said that there was a vast scope to increase mutual trade volume from US$ 1 billion to at least US$ 3 billion between Pakistan and Canada.
In his welcome address, SCCI Acting President Abdul Waheed said that Canada and Pakistan had been enjoying cordial relations since the independence of Pakistan. Canada the land of Maple Leafs, stunning landscapes and enormous inventions had always been a close partner of Pakistan in terms of bilateral trade and socio-economic development, he added.
He said that Canada’s expertise in industrial & economic sectors and human welfare index was among the best and we wish to benefit from Canada’s capabilities and skills in the fields of capacity building of export and manufacturing sectors and transfer of technology and knowledge base to the SMEs.
He said, it was encouraging to note that both countries had stepped up efforts to increase bilateral trade, investment and countless measures had been taken to ensure that the step was successful.
The SCCI acting president stressed that both the countries should facilitate single country trade exhibitions and encourage frequent exchanges of trade delegations. The procedure for issuance of visas to businessmen should be relaxed and business to business linkages should be encouraged.
Later, SCCI shield was presented to Canadian HC Mr. Perry Calderwood. Earlier, Canadian HC visited the leading industrial units in Sialkot. He witnessed the internationals standard craftsmanship of Sialkot based artisans.
