Minister of State for Education and Interior Affairs, Engr Mian Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman has said that universities being centres of excellence are responsible to impart quality and prepare students to confidently face the global challenges.
He was addressing the convocation of Islamic University Bahawalpur (IUB) held on Friday.
Degrees and medals were conferred to 1958 graduates from PhD to under graduate level including 99 gold and 77 silver medallists of academic session 2015 during the convocation by the Minister and Vice Chancellor (VC) IUB, Prof. Dr Qaiser Mushtaq.
Engr Baligh-ur-Rehman said that the government of Pakistan is committed to ensure quality education at all levels converting our nation into a knowledge based economy.
He said that the education sector is being focused with the highest priority and a record budgetary allocation of Rs. 1800 billion clearly reflects the major concern of the government under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Similarly, funding of the Higher Education Sector has been doubled from Rs. 41 to Rs. 92 billion during the last three years.
The Prime Minister is paying educational expenses of students belonging to less developed areas through Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme.
