Rawalpindi—Traders of the vegetable market in Rawalpindi have allegedly beat employees of an anti-encroachment squad after they started an anti-encroachment drive. According to Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) spokesman, Town Officer Regulation, Pir Shahzad Gohar supervised the anti-encroachment operation in different areas of Rawalpindi.
The team impounded four trucks of encroached goods from the areas of Bara Market, Talwaran Bazaar, Liaquat Road, Ganj Mandi, Namak Mandi and Raja Bazaar.
However, when the anti-encroachment teams reached the area of fruit and ‘Sabzi Mandi’, the traders and owners of encroached stalls showed immense resilience.
The traders retaliated and subsequently, the police personnel and workers of the anti-encroachment squad were viciously tortured while some of them were also taken hostages.
The traders unloaded the seized encroached goods from the trucks and smashed their windows.
Talking to the media, TOR, Pir Shahzad Gohar informed that the traders launched an assault on police and RTMA workers under the instructions of Qadir Mir of fruit and vegetable market. He further stated that a case has been registered of the incident at City Police Station.
