Agri-loan programme to curtail role of middlemen

Lahore—Soft-term and interest-free loans programme of the Punjab government will cater to the financial needs of farmers for both Rabi and Kharif crops and lessen their dependence on the middlemen (Arties).
Pakistan Muslim League-N leader and Member National Assembly Waheed Alam Khan said this while talking to APP on Monday. He said that the programme was aimed at strengthening economic condition of the farming community and enabling them to utilise their abilities in the best way without any scarcity of finances. The programme will change destiny of the cultivators, he said.
“The loans of billions of rupees will be given to farmers while the Punjab government will bear all mark-up of these loans, which is a landmark initiative,” he added He said that the programme was for small farmers having agriculture land up to 12.5 acres.
Almost half a million small farmers were expected to benefit from this programme, he said. He assured that the funds of historic package will be used judiciously for the uplift of agriculture sector and well being of farming community.—APP
