318 Ramzan, 27 model bazaars being set up in Punjab

As many as 318 Ramzan and 27 model bazaars will be set up in the province from 24th May for provision of eatables at concessionary prices during the holy month of Ramazan. These bazaars will remain open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran and Chief Secretary Punjab Capt (r) Zahid Saeed have directed the food, agriculture, industries and other relevant departments to complete their work so that the Ramzan Package could be got approved from Chief Minister Punjab.
These directions were issued during a meeting held to review the Ramzan Package at Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday. Addressing the meeting, Malik Nadeem Kamran said that availability of fruits, vegetables and others eatables be ensured during the month of Ramzan besides import of items, which are not available in sufficient quantity. He directed the relevant department to check statistics of demand and supply of commodities during the month of Ramzan in previous years and in case of less stocks importers be asked for importing these items.
The meeting also decided that provision of daily-use commodities would not only be ensured in the Ramzan and model bazaars at concessionary rates but also in the areas of low-income people through trucks. The Provincial Minister and Chief Secretary directed that strict check be kept on quality of commodities and weights and measures in the Ramzan bazaars. They said that no one would be allowed hoarding during Ramzan and such elements would be dealt with irony hands.
The chief secretary ordered the divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners to constitute anti-hoarding committees at district level. He also said that all deputy commissioners, mayors, chairmen of district councils should hold meeting on Ramzan bazaars’ arrangements in consultation with elected representatives of their areas.
He directed the departments concerned to enhance coordination and work like a team in connection with Ramzan. He also ordered them to submit proposals regarding Ramzan Package within two days. The meeting was attended by Secretary Food Shaukat Ali, Secretary Industries Mujtaba Piracha, Special Secretary Finance Usman Anwar Chaudhry, Special Secretary Agriculture Silwat Saeed, Commissioner Faisalabad Division Momin Agha, Commissioner Sargodha Division Nadeem Mahboob and officers concerned.
