Kissinger’s fears about Israel’s future
FORMER US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has carved out a unique position for himself because of his pragmatic approach to different issues. He comes out with futuristic statements and assessments because of his deep insight and background.
Last year, Kissinger had advised the international community not to snub but back Pakistan and now he has come out with a prediction that “in ten years, there will be no more Israel”. His statement has been quoted by the New York Post, which has also published excerpts from a report compiled by the intelligence community of the United States that Israel will no longer exist in the near future. Though Kissinger has offered no more explanations about his prediction but report of the 16 US intelligence agencies does refer to the ground realities and what course the United States should adopt to safeguard its own interests. They believe that in light of new realities in the Middle-East, the US government simply no longer has the military and financial resources to continue propping up Israel against the wishes of more than a billion of its neighbors. In order to normalize relations with 57 Islamic countries, the report suggests, the US will have to follow its own national interests and pull the plug on Israel. The analysis comes in the backdrop of growing perception that the incidents of 9/11 were engineered by Israel in a bid to inflict harm on Muslim interests the world over. Kissinger’s prophecy might come true in view of the Israeli intransigence and fanaticism that has undermined all attempts aimed at peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue. There have been a number of formulae, peace plans and proposals including the one that envisioned ‘land for peace’ but Israel preferred to rely on use of brutal force to suppress legitimate aspirations of Palestinian people. The kind of hostile atmosphere that the Jewish state has created for itself would, no doubt, lead to its ultimate disappearance. |
