Lahore—President Asif Ali Zardari has said that present government would complete its tenure adding that the next government in Punjab would be that of PPP. The President is on his two-day visit to Lahore for preparation of strategy for general polls. While talking to the media at Governor House Lahore, he said that present government would complete its tenure. He added that that he has made the country a profitable place. Talking about democratic situation, he said that he had transferred his powers to the parliament in accordance his own freewill. The President vows to make govt in Punjab after victory in next coming general polls.

Rauf Siddiqui resigns over Karachi factory fire

Karachi—Sindh Minister for Industry and Commerce Rauf Siddiqui on Friday tendered his resignation over the recent factory fire that claimed 258 lives in Karachi. Speaking to media representatives in Karachi, the provincial minister and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced that he had tendered his resignation. Siddiqui said he had dispatched his resignation to Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

US Senator moves bill to strip aid to Pak, Egypt and Libya

Washington—An influential American Senator has moved a Congressional amendment to strip all US aid to Pakistan, Egypt and Libya totaling about $4 billion per annum and divided the fund equally for veterans jobs bill and deficit reduction programme. Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky, who has been trying to strip Pakistan of all US aid till Dr Shakil Afridi is released from jail, made another attempt by introducing a new amendment to the veterans jobs bill. “I’m not saying don’t have relations with Pakistan. Many in Pakistan have been sympathetic to our country.

Election campaign Zardari in Punjab, Nawaz in Sindh

Islamabad—After facing tough resistance from important coalition partners and opposition parties to delay the general elections, President Asif Ali Zardari finally gave his mind in Lahore to top party leaders to prepare for general elections. Zardari had made a plan to postpone general polls and hold Local Bodies elections first to gain time to improve his government’s image. He tried to convince his coalition partners.

London—The Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command Unit has issued a fresh appeal for information as they try to solve the murder of Dr Imran Farooq in Edgware on 16 September 2010. Dr Farooq was a leading politician in Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and detectives believe he was planning to renew his political career before he was killed.

US drones cause Benghazi airport to shut

Tripoli—Libya closed its air space over Benghazi airport temporarily because of heavy anti-aircraft fire aiming at U.S. reconnaissance drones flying over the city, days after the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed in an attack.The closure of the airport prompted speculation that the United States was deploying special forces in preparation for an attack against the suspects who were involved in the attack. A Libyan official said the spy planes flew over the embassy compound and the city, taking photos and inspecting locations of groups who are alleged to have planned and staged the attack on the U.S. consulate on Tuesday.
