NAB cases against me have no legs: Nawaz

London—Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday said that the cases against him in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are weak. Speaking to audience and a section of media during a ceremony here, Sharif also inquired as why his previous government was dissolved? “Whenever the country progresses, these mysterious miscreants appear from nowhere to break down the process and dissolve the courts,” he pondered.

PM launches Ramazan Relief Package

Islamabad—Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday launched ‘Ramazan Relief Package’ here at Aabpara Utility Store under which profit on all commodities at the utility stores has been withdrawn. The Prime Minister arrived at the Aabpara Utility Store on surprise visit and reviewed quality and prices of commodities. He also met with the people busy in shopping there and asked about prices and standard of the commodities being sold at the utility store.

Imran to take peace convoy to Waziristan in September

Peshawar—Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Saturday announced to take a peace pageant to the militancy-ridden Waziristan by the end of September. Addressing a protest rally against the restoration of Nato supply routes, Khan said the purpose behind taking a peace procession to Waziristan is to bring the violence-effected families before the media, whose loved ones lost their lives in the drone attacks.

India considering to lift ban on Pakistani TV channels

New Delhi—India has assured Pakistan that it will consider a proposal to lift the ban on Pakistani television channels in the country. This was after Pakistan Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani’s strong pitch last week proposing India allow transmission of not just Pakistan government (PTV) but also private channels, both news and non-news, the Times of India reported.

6 ANP workers among 10 injured in Quetta firing

Quetta—At least 10 people including six Awami National Party (ANP) workers were injured on Saturday when some unidentified gunmen opened fire at ANP activists who were observing strike against bomb explosion at the party’s rally on Friday. According to police, strike was being observed in Quetta against the bomb blast at the ANP rally that killed six persons on Friday. In the same backdrop, the ANP workers were passing through the Double Road when unknown gunmen opened fire at them.

CEC to take oath on 20th

Karachi—Pakistan’s new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim is set to take oath of the office on July 20. Justice (Retd) Ebrahim was recommended to the post of CEC by a parliamentary committee last week, following which Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and leader of opposition Chaudhry Nisar and the name was finally approved by President Asif Ali Zardari.

Progress without education impossible: Shahbaz

Murree—Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that the dream of rapid progress can only be achieved by imparting research based knowledge to the younger generation. He was talking to a delegation of brilliant students, who called on him here on Saturday. He said that Punjab government is following a comprehensive programme of promotion of information technology in the province. He said that provicincial government is spending huge resources on the builders of the future, and their education.
