Govt promoting school education: Mujtaba

Lahore—Provincial Minister for Education, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said on Tuesday the Punjab government was pursuing a comprehensive policy for promotion and upgradation of school education. Talking to a delegation of schoolteachers, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said that 3,068 primary and middle schools had been upgraded at a cost of Rs 13,005 million during the last four years.

Govt struggling to reduce population growth

Lahore—Parliamentary Secretary in Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammed Arshad has said the government is striving hard to bring down population growth rate from 1.98 per cent to 1.49 per cent. Addressing a function held in connection with the World Population Day at a local hotel on Wednesday, he said Pakistan was currently rated among top 10 most populated countries of the world and there was an urgent need to devise a comprehensive strategy to control high rate of growth.

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that service to the people is a form of worship and it is the responsibility of the government to provide the best services and facilities to the masses. Ulema urged to promote message of tolerance

Lahore—Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen Wednesday called upon the ulema to promote Islam’s message of unity, brotherhood, affinity and tolerance in their respective areas of influence during the holy month of Ramazan ul Mubarik. Addressing a meeting of District Peace Committee held here which was attended by Ulema from different schools of thought, he hoped that religious leaders always rendered invaluable services for maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the society.

LHC seeks report from NCA principal

Lahore—Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Tuesday sought a report from the principal National College Of Arts (NCA) by September 6 on a petition seeking directions for the registration of a case against him and 13 others for publishing objectionable material in an art magazine, Sohbet. The chief justice also issued notice to four magazine editors for the next date of hearing.
