No readymade solution to vexed Kashmir issue: VakilSrinagar—Former Minister and member of All India Congress Committee Abdul Gani Vakil has said that no single party can claim to be in possession of a readymade solution to the vexed Kashmir issue. “To resolve this issue people of different thoughts from three regions of the state have to be taken on board, Article 370 is to be strengthened and those communal forces bent upon dividing the state are to be kept at bay,” Vakil, according to a statement, told party workers at a convention here.Geelani’s Karakuli is Kashmir’s honourGowhar Geelani MANY of my Indian and foreign friends often mention how Kashmir’s warmth, generosity and family values leave an indelible impression on their minds. Majority of them leave Kashmir with a pledge to visit this “beautiful prison” again. In our informal conversations, some of them convey that Kashmiris have immense respect for the elders in the family. That is so true. Now we are hearing that Kashmir’s 83-year-old leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani – hugely respected for his unshaken stance on Kashmir, integrity and character – has been heckled once again by some paid goons in New Delhi.

Geelani supports JI on dress advisory for touristsSrinagar—Senior Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani supported Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Kashmir for issuing a dress-advisory to tourists. “It (JeI’s statement) is a very valid thing. Islam seeks such a society where human values are respected, where modesty is upheld, where semi-naked dresses are not worn, where alcohol and drugs are not promoted and where women and men do not mix,” Geelani said. Geelani said Jamaat’s dress advisory to tourists visiting Kashmir is in line with the group’s idea of society. He said the culture of “nakedness, immodesty and alcohol” is “poisonous” to every human society.Kashmir is disputed territory: Pak objects to int’l flights from SrinagarSrinagar—Pakistan has objected to operation of international flights from Srinagar airport citing disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir and apprehending that international air traffic could pose a threat to country’s security. Highly placed sources told Rising Kashmir that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had taken up the matter of starting international flights from Srinagar airport with Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh earlier this year. |
