India cannot suppress Kashmiris’ liberation movement: Gilani

Srinagar—The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that New Delhi has forcibly occupied Jammu and Kashmir and it cannot suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing liberation movement through use of brute force.

Syed Ali Gilani, talking to a delegation of Rawalpura elders that met him at his residence in Srinagar, today, said that Indian troops were involved in the worst kind of human rights violations and the occupied territory, which had been converted into a military camp.

He told the delegation that no one was allowed to move freely and the authorities were imposing curbs on Hurriyet leaders. Similarly, he said that innocent Kashmiri youth were being arrested and put behind the bars.

The veteran Hurriyet maintained that India, under a pre-planned conspiracy, wanted to sabotage the Kashmiris’ indigenous movement by dividing them on sectarian and communal lines but it would never succeed in its nefarious motives.

He expressed serious concern over the plight of illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists and said that the authorities were not providing them with medical and other basic amenities, which was violation of the Geneva Convention.

Syed Ali Gilani appealed the international human rights organisations particularly the Amnesty International and Asia Watch to use their good offices for the release Kashmiri detainees and impress upon India to stop human rights violations in the occupied territory.—KMS
