Decision to open Nato routes in national interest : PM

Islamabad—Prime Minister Raja Pevez Ashraf has said that the decision to open Ground Lines of Communications (GLOCs) for passage of Nato supplies through Pakistani territory was taken in the best national interest in the light of recommendations of Parliament.The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, President of PML-Q, and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Deputy Prime Minister who called on him at the PM House on Thursday.

Arab ministerial meeting to discuss Arafat’s death

Tunis—Tunisia has called for Arab ministers to meet to discuss the death of former Palestinian President Yasser Arafat after new suspicions that he was murdered, a senior official in the Arab League said on Thursday. The Palestinian Authority agreed on Wednesday to exhume Arafat’s body after new allegations that he was poisoned with the radioactive element polonium-210 in 2004, the same substance found to have killed a former Russian spy in London in 2006.

UK, France hail Nato supply resumption

London/Paris — The United Kingdom has welcomed the reopening of the ground lines of communication into Afghanistan.According to a press release issued by the UK High Commission Islamabad, the Foreign Secretary, William Hague said, “I welcome the reopening of the ground lines of communication into Afghanistan, which are important for Britain and Nato’s operations in Afghanistan. “This decision underlines Pakistan’s commitment in helping to secure a stable and peaceful Afghanistan, and I am pleased that the US and Pakistan have come to an agreement,” he added.

Capital punishment for three convicts on hold

Islamabad—President Asif Ali Zardari has stopped implementation of sentencing of prisoners on death row till September 30. In this regard Law Ministry has dispatched a letter, bearing President Zardari’s directives, to all prisons, according to media reports.
