Pak-Malaysia trade increased by 35pc after FTAStaff Reporter Karachi—Consul General of Malaysia, Abu Bakar Mamat said that Malaysia and Pakistan recorded 25 and 10 per cent increase in bilateral trade in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The positive growth was subsequent to the signing of FTA (free trade agreement) between the two countries in 2007. He added that there is a need to create awareness among the manufacturers on the liberalisation of trade in goods and services and the elimination of tariff on their respective products.
Govt to welcome investorsStaff Reporter Islamabad—A two-member delegation of the Yamaha motorcycle Japan called on Federal Secretary Ministry of Industries Aziz Ahmed Bilour and presented their proposals regarding the establishment of a new motor cycle plant in Pakistan and a subsequent relief in the import duty on motorcycle parts. They said that Yamaha is bringing new technology to Pakistan and being a new entrant they need some additional benefits to survive in the existing competitive market of Pakistan. They demanded that Yamaha must be allowed to import parts at a duty of 5%.

Cathay Pacific releases traffic figuresStaff Reporter Karachi—The Cathay Pacific Airways here on Thursday released combined Cathay Pacific and Dragonair traffic figures for May 2012 that show a year-on-year growth in passenger numbers alongside a significant drop in cargo and mail tonnage. A statement said that Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried a total of 2,358,171 passengers in May, an increase of 6.8% on the same month in 2011, while the passenger load factor rose by 0.2 percentage points to 78.5%.
Capacity for the month, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), rose by 4.2%.
For the year to date, passenger numbers have risen by 9.1% compared to a capacity increase of 7.6%.
