Rich tributes paid to Tufail Matoo, other martyrs in IHKSrinagar—In occupied Kashmir, APHC leader and the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) Chairman, Zafar Akbar Butt has appealed to the imams and ulema to pray for the liberation of Kashmir and to the martyrs of 2008-2010. Zafar Akbar Butt addressing his party activists in connection with the Martyrs’ Week programme in Srinagar said that the people of Kashmir had given matchless sacrifices for the liberation movement.Andrabi case Five days given for producing charge sheetSrinagar—In occupied Kashmir, a court granted five more days to prosecution for producing reconstructed version of charge sheet and its English version in Jaleel Andrabi murder case. Afaq Ahmad, Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO), the prosecution sought more time to finalise the reconstructed version of charge sheet and its English translation. Mir Hafizullah, the counsel for Jaleel’s family, said that the prosecution was delaying its procedural formalities.It may be recalled that the court had directed for an error-free charge-sheet in the matter after the Ministry of External Affairs sent back the record pertaining to extradition of Major Avtar Singh involved in killing Andrabi and is currently in California.25 new uplift projects approved for AJKRao Atiq ul Amin Khan Mirpur—Azad Jammu & Kashmir Development Working Party (AJ&KDWP) has accorded approval of 25 development schemes of worth Rs. 9217.516 million including those in education, health, public works, agricul-ture, information technology, physical planning and housing, hydro electric board, sports, electricity, wild life & fish-eries and transport sectors, it was officially declared.
The AJ&KDWP meeting held here in Muzaffarabad late Wednesday was pre-sided over by the additional chief secretary (development) Abid Ali.
CRPF involved in stone-pelting, police in eve-teasing in IHKSrinagar—In occupied Kashmir, the police have registered around 450 cases against Indian paramilitary forces and agencies for crimes including killings, stone-pelting and eve-teasing. Some cases were also registered against some police personnel for their involvement in robbery, rioting, timber smuggling, cheating, eve-teasing, burglary and criminal conspiracy. The information was disclosed by the police in response to an application filed under RTI (Right to Access) Act by renowned human rights activist, Khuram Parveez. In 2009, a case under FIR No 62/2009 was registered against CRPF for stone-pelting. However, the present status of the case has been shown as “untraced” by the investigating authority.Custodial killings go unchecked in occupied KashmirHumayun Aziz Sandeela THE endless custodial killings and human rights violations in occupied Kashmir have been raised time and again by the international community and human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, but all those pleas have fallen on deaf ears, as no practical step has ever been taken by India to stop these abuses and the hollow claims of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about ‘zero tolerance’ seem a far cry.
