Experts alarmed at climate change effects on CKNP

Islamabad—Experts at a seminar held on Thursday urged the government to take serious measures to conserve the environment of Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) in Gilgit Biltistan – rich in natural biodiversity and cultural heritage. Speakers at a consultation on “Climate Change and Ecosystem Assessment of the CKNP Region”, have demanded establishment of a Committee under the supervision of Ministry of Climate Change to protect rich biodiversity region. The seminar was jointly arranged by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Ev-K2-CNR, Government of Italy.

IHC grants relief to 2 CSS aspirants

Islamabad —Islamabad High Court on Thursday granted relief to two female candidates who have passed the CSS examination but were denied allocation/group of their choice against 10 per cent reserved quota for women. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC in his short order observed the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) itself had clearly mentioned the criterion for allocation of 10 per cent vacancies to female candidates and by denying the applicants the same it was violating its own rules.

Islamabad - An exhibition was held at Aiwan-e-Sir Syed Islamabad under “INSPIRE PAKISTAN PROGRAMME” in collaboration between Sir Syed Memorial Society and Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, in which ten colleges and schools and 300 boys and girls participated. It was part of a total programme of training ten thousand students.

Cookies may help kids beat milk allergy

KIDS who can’t tolerate milk but can pass the “muf-fin test” without symptoms may outgrow their al-lergy faster if they raid the cookie jar on a regular basis to keep baked dairy in their diet, researchers found. Children who did not react to milk that was heated sufficiently to change the shape of allergy-causing proteins had a 27.8-fold greater likelihood of losing the allergy altogether within three years, according to Dr. Jennifer S. Kim, Medical Today Reported.

All measures being taken to resolves minorities problems

Islamabad—A five-member delegation of UN headed by High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Navanethem Pillay called on Minister In-charge of National Harmony Dr. Paul Bhatti here on Thursday and discussed issues of minorities and social programmes launched for their welfare in the country. Talking to the delegation Dr. Paul said poverty, illiteracy and intolerance are the major issues in the country and government is taking all possible measures to resolve them. He urged the international community to collaborate with Pakistan for establishing peace, promoting interfaith harmony and empowering the country economically.

Time to reconsider policy assumptions about Afghanistan

Islamabad—Speaking at a roundtable organized by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) here on Wednesday, Mr. Ejaz Haider questioned some of the generally held basic perceptions in Pakistan about Afghanistan. Haider, who is currently working as Senior Advisor Policy Outreach and Peace and Conflict Program at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), argued that the U.S. was, most probably, not losing in Afghanistan or that an exit was the only option for it, as is generally believed in Pakistan.
