Punjab govt ready to pay circular debt: ShahbazSalim Ahmed Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the worst loadshedding in Pakistan’s history has made the life of the people miserable, industries, agriculture and export sectors have been devastated while a huge loss has been caused to the economy. He said that Punjab has faced a setback of approximately 400 billion rupees in one year due to loadshedding while lakhs of workers have become jobless. He said that poverty and unemployment resulting from this problem have badly hit the poor and the common man is facing hunger and starvation.
PML(N) behaviour undemocratic: WarraichLahore—Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President and Interior State Minister Imtiaz Safdar Warraich has said that the behaviour of Pakistan Muslim League (N) during Budget speech was undemocratic as well as unethical. Addressing a press conference here on Monday at Press Club, he termed PML (N) decision to hold local bodies election on non-party basis a “conspiracy” to suppress the voice of the masses, adding that people vote only on basis. Warraich said that the rumpus created by PML (N) during the budget speech in NA was attempt to derail democratic process in the country.Fire damages LHC judge’s chamberLahore—A fire broke out on Monday at the Lahore High Court which destroyed furniture and accessories in the chamber of a judge but no one was injured. The fire broke out in the court of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah in early morning hours due to short circuit but firefighters were called quickly who extinguished the fire immediately. All record, court files and electronic gadgets remained safe but furniture and accessories in the chamber were reduced to ashes.Study questions fructose role in hypertensionSWEET drinks have been linked to a slightly higher risk of developing high blood pressure, but, contrary to earlier research, a large new study finds that fruit sugar in those drinks is not the likely culprit behind that association. Following more than 200,000 men and women for up to 38 years, researchers found that regularly consuming sweetened drinks — either containing sugars or artificially sweetened — was associated with a rise of about 13 percent in the risk of developing high blood pressure.
