Another fiery Monday in Margallas

Islamabad—It was the second big fire in a week that engulfed Margalla Hills on Monday. Last Monday it was near the Pak Secretariat while this Monday some 500-metre off the Pir Sohawa Road. One could see large flames licking grass, bushes and trees on a number of hills frustrating all the efforts of the fire extinguishers. “The flames started around 10 a.m. and by the afternoon they had spread over a vast terrain causing fears among the residents and commuters of the adjacent localities.” “Seeing the mood of fire, the authorities had to temporarily close the road leading to Damn-e-Koh for all kind of traffic,” said an official of the Islamabad Traffic Police.

2598 criminals arrested during 2012 from Capital

Islamabad—A total of 2598 persons were arrested during this year for their alleged involvement in crimes of various nature and stolen as well as snatched property worth Rs. 190 million was also recovered. According to police spokesman, the commitment and devotion by the personnel of Islamabad police despite several constraints, made them successful against the criminal elements this year and a total of 2598 accused were arrested. In the year 2012, Islamabad police arrested 112 dacoits, 130 burglars, 274 thieves while 144 gangs of criminals were also busted besides arrest of 504 gangsters. A comprehensive security and vigilance plan was also chalked out on the directions of IGP Bani Amin Khan and SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik after consultation of all stake holders.

When working out is too much of a good thing

Fitness experts say more is not always better and overworking a workout can sap strength and invite injury. “We have fit people and deconditioned people who overdo it,” said Geralyn Coopersmith, national director of the Equinox Fitness Training Institute. “Exercise is like a drug, if you don’t have enough, you get no benefits, if you have too much, you have problems,” she said. Shin splints, heel spurs, tendonitis are among the common overuse injuries that Coopersmith, who oversees the training of personal trainers for Equinox fitness centers, sees.

Amina urges Govt to bring Pak prisoners back from Afghanistan

43 people went missing in May

Islamabad—Chairperson Defence of Human Rights (DHR) Amina Masood Janjua, Monday, revealed there was no let-up in the number of missing persons and in May alone some 43 persons were picked by agencies from various parts of the country. Showing a list of missing persons, most of them (24) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17 from Punjab and one each from Sindh and Balochistan, Janjua said there was an urgent need to take up missing persons’ case not only with our own agencies but also with the authorities in Afghanistan and the United States.

Media urged to raise awareness on healthy environment

Islamabad—Speaker, National Assembly (NA), Dr. Fehmida Mirza urged media to play its due role for raising awareness about healthy environment and more planation to save the earth planet. In a message on the occasion of World Environment Day being observed on Tuesday, she stressed the Environment Protection agencies (EPA) to take strict action against the violators of the environmental laws and gear up their efforts to improve the pervasive environment degradation. She said that strict compliance of the universally recognized environmental standards would ensure sustainable health environment and biodiversity for the coming generations.

Parking dilemma at G-6 Weekly Bazaar perturbs shoppers

Islamabad—The residents visiting the Weekly G-6 bazaar are facing huge parking difficulty due to insufficient parking space around the bazaar, and the concerned authorities have turned a blind eye to the woes of the shoppers. The visitors to G-6 Sunday Bazaar have to park their vehicles besides the main road that not only create traffic jams, but also result into accidents at times. Moreover, going for shopping to G-6 bazaar on motor bike is a nightmare as they have to park their bikes either on footpath or on the roads which attracts anger of the traffic police.

‘Need to follow teachings of Hazrat Ali (RA)’

Islamabad—Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari Monday underlined the need for following teachings of Hazrat Ali (RA), which would help uproot the menaces of sectarianism and terrorism from the society. Addressing the participants of a seminar titled “Jashan-e-Molod-e-Ka’ba” here he said “There is no room for terrorism, militancy or extremism in Islam and those involved in such activities cannot even claim to be Muslims.” The seminar was held in connection with the birthday celebrations of Hzarat Ali (RA).
