Doctors announce 2-hour token strike from MondayStaff Reporter Karachi—Doctors have announced to start a token strike of two hours from May 21 in each and every hospital of Hyderabad City, Jamshoro, Karachi, Larkana, Sukkar, Sanghar, Tando Mohammed Kkan, Thatta, Badin and Khairpur.
This decision of PMA Sindh members, including doctors from Civil Hospitals functional in different cities of the province, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and Lyari General Hospital units was announced during a protest meeting held at Karachi Press Club on Thursday evening. Dr. Samrina Hashmi, President, PMA Sindh, addressing her colleagues said Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) needed to play its role and provide insurance facility to the doctors serving day and night in different hospitals.
Children’s youth training Significance of acquisition of knowledge stressedStaff Reporter Karachi—A function to discuss the theme: “Training of children and youths and role of educational institutions” was held, comprising recitation of verses of Holy Qur’an, na’at, speeches, skit and dua-i-said, at a local hotel.
Speaking on the occasion, Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan said that knowledge was a part of our faith and the first revelation of holy verses on the Holy Prophet (PBUH) explained that acquiring knowledge was incumbent upon every Muslim.
$300 million USAID grant Health sector reforms & support unit inauguratedM M Alam Karachi—Edward W Birgells Regional Director US Agency for International Development - USAID (Sindh) maintaining that healthcare was important for political purposes as well as for the welfare of the people, announced that USAID had approved US $ 300 million child-health program for Pakistan “and a lot of that money would be coming to Sindh”. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Health Sector Reforms & Support Unit that is being established with a Rs. 270 million grant from the USAID.
Women development dept to hold dialogue on problems of workersStaff Reporter Karachi—Sindh Women Development Department in collaboration with UN Women and Asian Development Bank is organizing a one-day forum on “Strategic Dialogue on Addressing the Concerns of Formal and Informal Women Workers in Policies and Programs,” on May 22.
Organizers of the program on Friday said since the devolution of powers under 18th amendment in the constitution the role of women development department has widened and as such it is presently engaged in formulation of policies for gender equality and women empowerment.

Lab animals and people generally perform better on tests of cognition after several weeks of exercise training, and studies have shown that over time, running and other types of endurance exercise increase the number of neurons in portions of the brain devoted to memory and learning. |
