CDA receives Saheli’s medical examination reports

Islamabad—The National Veterinary Laboratory Friday submitted medical examination reports of the female elephant ‘Saheli’ with the Capital Development Authority that had died on May 1 in mysterious circumstances after brief illness. “We have received medical examination reports. These reports would be submitted to the inquiry committee headed by Member Administration Shaukat Mohmand,” a senior CDA official told APP Friday.

Exhibition of rare pottery

Islamabad—Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) here Friday displayed rare collection of exquisite pottery items by Sheherezade Alam with depiction of artistic skills that bring unique style in crafts. The National Art Gallery of PNCA in collaboration with Ministry of National Heritage and Integration opened the show with title “I am vessel, I am the vessel maker, I am the clay of the vessel”.

Islamabad—To set a new tradition of bringing new and old students of Mass Communication together under the one roof along with colours of creativity, entertainment, fun, leisure, learning and reunion, Mass Communication Department arranged a 3-hour-long funfilled and entertaining Mass Communication Festival 2012 in National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad. Faces were glowing with shining bliss, hall was echoing with cackles of students, feet were thumping on the beat of the music and course-clapping was thrown to appreciate amateur singers and performers and producers. This was the mood of gathering in the festival.

Muscles working boosts brainpower

UPENDING the cliché of muscleheads, scientists at the Laboratory of Neuroscience at the National Institute on Aging recently set out to examine whether changes in muscles prompted by exercise might subsequently affect and improve the brain’s ability to think. Lab animals and people generally perform better on tests of cognition after several weeks of exercise training, and studies have shown that over time, running and other types of endurance exercise increase the number of neurons in portions of the brain devoted to memory and learning.

Attacks on journalists PCP demands security for media persons

Islamabad—Attacks on the media persons are not only condemnable but also tantamount to causing interference in the free dissemination of information to the general public. Safety, security and protection of the media persons should be the top priority of the law enforcing agencies who are not only required to maintain law and order but also uphold the law and the constitution. This was stated by Chairman, Press Council of Pakistan, Raja Shafqat Abbasi in a letter written to the Inspector General Police, Government of Punjab.

Encroachment hurdle in flow of traffic

Rawalpindi—In order to prevent traffic violation, awareness about traffic rules and road safety was inevitable to save precious lives of citizens said Chief Traffic Police officer Ghulam Abbas Tarar. CTO Rawalpindi Ghulam Abbas Tarar talking to INP said that encroachment is one of the barriers in smooth flow of traffic. Moreover, the shopkeepers put their items for sale even outside their shops and also on footpaths/roads which cause hurdle in the flow of traffic, he added.

Accountability Court sentences ex-CDA cashier

Rawalpindi—The Judge Accountability Court Rawalpindi has decided a NAB Reference against an Ex-Cashier Naeem Pervaiz of the Maintenance Division, CDA. The Court sentenced the accused to 3 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 3.00 million. In case of default of fine, the accused would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for one year. Earlier, NAB had filed a reference against the accused in the Accountability Court on 10.11.2007. The Reference was based on a complaint from then Director Maintenance Division CDA, Mr. M. Siddique Abid, wherein he had alleged that accused Naeem Pervaiz had embezzled government funds from an official account of the CDA. The Account was being operated by Drawing and Disbursing Officer Maintenance Division.

Disease curable Maintaining data of blood cancer patients stressed

Islamabad—President Pakistan Society of Hematology and Head of Hematology Department at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Maj. Gen. Sohaib Ahmad has said that cancers are now curable. Addressing a Seminar at Shifa International Hospital, he said human genome, to diagnose various blood cancers including leukemia and lymphoma, can be studied on latest medical equipment for as low as US$ 40 which used to cost US$ 100,000 in the past.
