Heroin seized from export consignment

Karachi—The squad of of Model Customs Collectorate of Exports has recovered 125 kgs heroin from export consignment here at West Wharf. According to official sources, a 40 ft refrigerated container containing Onion stuffed in 5,400 bags was brought for export to Malaysia at Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) on May 9. Scrutiny of the documents presented to Customs officers for examination, indicated suspicion as the exporter as well as clearing agent were new in the field of exports.

Karachi, Mashhad declared sister cities

Karachi—Karachi and the Iranian city of Mashhad have been declared as sister cities, says a KMC statement. It said that Syed Muhammad Pezhman, the Lord Mayor of Mashhad, and Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Muhammad Hussain Syed, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to declare Karachi and Iranian city Mashhad as sister cities.

Govt urged to promote Urdu

Karachi—Speakers at the meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter urged the government to implement the Urdu as a national language according to the clause 251 (i) of the constitution of Pakistan, 1973. The meeting was held on Thursday May 10, 2012 on the theme: “The importance of national language in development and progress of the country”, pre-sided over by Justice ® Haziqul Khairi at a local hotel. Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan was also present at the meeting.

Need stressed for legislation to resolve youths’ problems

Karachi—There is need for undertaking necessary legislation for the resolution of the problems that are confronted by the youngsters. This was stressed by the Sindh Minister for Youth Affairs, Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari. He was talking to a delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in his office here on Friday. The delegation was led by UNFPA Representative R. Royan. Sindh secretary Youth Affairs, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, and Director Youth Affairs, Khurshid Ali Shaikh, were also present on the occasion.

Long car commutes risk health: Research

INDIVIDUALS with the longest commutes by car to and from work were the ones least likely to report frequently engaging in moderate to vigorous exercise, and most likely to show risk factors for poorer cardiovascular and metabolic health These were the findings of a new study by Dr Christine M. Hoehner of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, in the US, and colleagues, that is published in the June issue of American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Health news Reported.
