1 million Olympic tickets to go on sale Friday
London—Olympic fans who missed out on tickets for the London Games will get another opportunity this week, including a chance of securing high-demand seats for the opening ceremony or 100-meter final.
Olympic organizers said Tuesday they are putting nearly 1 million tickets on sale, with priority given to those people who were unsuccessful in previous rounds.
The 900,000 tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to the nearly 1 million people in Britain who applied previously but came up empty handed.
SBP serves another show cause notice to turf installer
Lahore—In another major development Sports Board Punjab on Tuesday served another show cause notice to the installer of blue synthetic hockey turf at national hockey stadium for their continuous negligence to remove shock pads from the arena.
“We have failed to understand why the installer (Swallow international) is not taking necessary measures to carry out work in accordance with the tender notice and tender document which is causing unnecessary delay to lay the turf as per schedule “,said Director Sports, SBP, Jalil Ahmad Chohan told APP here.
Rubel Hossain to undergo operation next week
Bipin Dani from MumbaiThe shoulder surgery to Bangladesh fast bowler, Rubel Hossain has been delayed. The 23-year-old bowler was scheduled to undergo the operation on May 3, and all arrangement and appointment with the South African doctor was finalised. However, owing to visa problem, Rubel Hossain could not fly to South Africa in the first week of May.
According to the sources in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the visa has finallky been aprooved, though the passport, till Tuesday afternoon was not yet delivered to the bowler.
“The bowler is likely to leave for South Africa later this week (may be on Friday) and will be under knife next week”, the Dhaka-based source said to this paper.
‘Hafeez be appointed as T-20 captain’
Lahore—Former test bowler, Sarfraz Nawaz has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board that batsman Mohammad Hafeez be appointed as the captain of national T-20 team and the present skipper, Misbah ul Haq be given the task to lead the side in one-day and test matches.
“ It is the right time to groom a captain for T-20 and I think Hafeez is the right choice and in my opinion Misbah ul Haq’s leadership be curtailed to one day and test matches “,he told reporters here on Tuesday at Gadaffi stadium.
Azarenka, Sharapova advance in Madrid
Madrid—The two leading women both reached the third round of the Madrid Masters on Tuesday, with top seed Victoria Azarenka made to struggle by Czech Andrea Hlavackova before emerging 6-3, 7-6 (7/2) winner. The Belarus player was serving for a quick straight-set result but was broken as her opponent pulled level at 5-5 in the second set.
The seed had to save a set point in the 12th game to bring on a tiebreaker, which finally saw her through with 32 winners in one and three-quarter hours.
