Wants Nawaz to apologise for compromising with dictators

Lahore—Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has asked PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif to apologize to the nation for making compromises with dictators. Talking to a group of selected newsmen in Lahore on Sunday‚ the premier said followers of dictators cannot face PPP leadership. He said Nawaz Sharif has track record of making compromises with dictators. He added that opposition’s hue and cry cannot attract people. He said Nawaz Sharif practices politics with the support of clutches. He added that lawyers are supporting democracy and constitution.

NWA clashes leave nine security personnel dead

North Waziristan—A clash between security forces and militants in North Waziristan has resulted in the death of nine security personnel alongwith 20 others being injured, according to an ISPR statement. In response to the attack, security forces killed three militants. Four civilians were also reportedly killed during the incident. According to sources, the incident took place in Miranshah near the town of Datta Khel. Injured security personnel have been shifted to SMH Hospital in Miranshah.

Imran pledges to save judiciary

Islamabad—The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan has said that corrupt rulers want to destroy judiciary as they cannot tolerate its independence. He was addressing a rally of PTI at D-Chowk here on Sunday. Thousands of workers and leaders participated in the rally. He said if judiciary was be damaged then the future of the democracy in the country would also be ruined. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif held a rally at Taxila with the help of Patwaris and bureaucracy of Punjab. He should prove himself a real lion by tendering resignations from the assemblies instead of becoming lion of paper.

Govt depriving Lyari people of amenities: Nawaz

Islamabad—President Pakistan Muslim League-N, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the government is depriving the patriotic citizens especially Balochs of basic amenities in Lyari under the pretext of operation against criminals in Karachi which is highly condemnable. Talking to President Pakistan Muslim League-N Sindh Syed Ghous Ali Shah at Raiwind, he said that more than 30 persons have been killed so far in this operation while the residents of Lyari are facing acute shortage of food and other necessary items and forced to migrate from there.

France chooses new president

Paris—France voted in a presidential run-off election Sunday that could see Socialist challenger Francois Hollande defeat incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy by capitalizing on public anger over spending cuts and a Europe-wide push for austerity. The election outcome will impact efforts to fight Europe’s debt crisis, how long the nation’s troops stay in Afghanistan and how France exercises its military and diplomatic muscle around the world.

No dialogue with banned Amn Committee: Malik

Karachi—Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik on Sunday ruled out the possibility of negotiations with the Amn Committee – the banned outfit of Lyari. Malik said that if the criminals of Lyari trust Nawaz Sharif then they could call for the Punjab police instead. Speaking to the media after a meeting on law and order at the Chief Minister House, Malik said that Pakistan Muslim League-N will be making a big blunder by including Uzair Baloch in its party.

US presses India to cut Iran oil import

Kolkata — Hoping to wean India from Iranian oil imports, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is urging Indian leaders to explore alternative suppliers as she opens a three-day visit to the energy-starved South Asian giant that will also focus on regional security and easing trade restrictions. Clinton arrived in the eastern city of Kolkata — the first secretary of state to visit the former colonial capital of 14 million — on Sunday after visits to China and Bangladesh as officials traveling with her said the Iranian oil imports would top an agenda that includes India’s relations with nuclear rival Pakistan and the future of Afghanistan.
