Authorities concerned on growing security problems for journalistsStaff Reporter Karachi—Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Ms Sharmila Faruqi and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee Member Ashfaq Mangi gave the Aslam Ali Press Freedom Award along with a cheque of one hundred thousand rupees to Anita Saleem Shahzad, widow of the slain journalist. Children of Saleem Shahzad were also present.
Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day here on Thursday announced the annual PPF-Aslam Ali Press Freedom Award-2012 for the slain journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad, who was murdered on 30 May 2011.

Terming Sitar, Tabla & Sufi music as great heritage, he noted that there were many young gifted musicians engaged in modern music as well: “I’ve studied musicology and was a very active guitarist many years ago. I am particularly fascinated with Pakistani traditional/classical music”.
Camps for affected residents of Lyari in Keamari, RazzaqabadStaff Reporter Karachi—Commissioner of Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh on Friday said camps established for people forced to leave their home by criminals, due to ongoing operation against the latter, are fully functional at Government Jungle Shah College, U.C.Three, Keamari and Government Degree College, Razzakabad.
In a statement on Friday, he said the committee constituted on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah (headed by Karachi Commissioner himself), to assess extent of loss borne by each of the affected families, is also expediting its efforts to provide relief to the needed families.
KESC demands security to restore feeders, PMTsKarachi—Karachi Electric Supply Company has demanded security cover in Lyari’s troubled areas for restoration of five tripped feeders and 19 damaged PMTs which have so far been inaccessible to the standby maintenance teams due to law and order situation in that locality. KESC said 10 per cent of the total 180,000 consumers in Lyari vicinity were still deprived of electricity supply because of miscreants’ direct firing on power installations and law enforcement agencies must play their due role to provide immediate relief to the stranded citizens.ILO team visits EOBI head officeKarachi—A team of international Labour Organization (ILO) here on Friday visited the head office of the Employees Oldage Benefits Institution (EOBI).An announcement said that Saadya Hamdani, Gender Specialist, ILO, and Manzoor Khaliq, Senior Programme Officer, ILO, visited EOBI Head Office to discuss the Decent Work Country Programme and capacity building of EOBI to achieve the goals. |
