PEEF to support deserving students: ShahbazMeets Chinese delegationStaff Reporter Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) is the biggest educational scholarship programme of its kind in the world to support the poor but talented students.
Addressing a function regarding achievement of the target of distribution of educational scholarship of rupees one billion among the deserving students by the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, he said endowment fund had given a new hope to the needy students and was a revolutionary project which would provide excellent human resource and a confident leadership to the country.
Govt providing facilities to students: MujtabaLahore—Punjab Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said the government is implementing a comprehensive programme for providing modern education facilities to children. Talking to various delegations, he said the provincial government was working hard to achieve 88 percent literacy rate till 2015 under the millennium development goals.LHC adjourns case to make Urdu official languageStaff Reporter Lahore—Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed on Thursday adjourned the hearing of petition seeking directions to adopt Urdu as an official language of the country, for three weeks.
Earlier, a deputy attorney general appeared before the court and sought time to file the reply.
The chief justice accepting the request adjourned the matter for three weeks.
Punjab gets Rs 2.2754b from central Zakat funds
Timely distribution of Zakat directedStaff Reporter Lahore—Provincial Minister for Zakat & Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran has directed district Zakat officers and chairmen district Zakat committees to ensure timely distribution of Zakat funds to deserving people.
He was talking to a nine-member delegation comprising chairmen district Zakat committees of Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Mandi Bahaudin, Sialkot, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, DG Khan, Hafizabad and Gujranwala here on Thursday.
The delegation informed the minister about their requirements and problems being faced in discharging of their duties.
