Kashmir again under global scanner

Islamabad—This week two statements, one from UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon and the other from British Foreign Office in its annual human rights report, are of extraordinary global impact on Kashmir and South Asian peace prospects. The UN Secretary General on April 28, 2012, in New Delhi, advised resolution of the oldest Kashmir dispute having regard to the ‘will’ of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the real affectees of the unsolved Kashmir and incessant woes sprouting forth from the prolonged unsettlement. The words of Mr Ban are not individualistic in nature.

Cross-LoC traders reconstitute working committee

Poonch—In order to choose eleven members for Cross-LoC Joint Traders Federation, Cross LoC Traders Association reconstituted their working committee here. All the office bearers of the existing committee resigned from their respective posts earlier and then new committee was framed.

10 journalists killed, several injured since 1989 in IHK

Kashmir settlement through tripartite talks urged
Srinagar—India has turned occupied Kashmir into one of the most dangerous places of the world for the people associated with the press and media. According to the data, on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, Thursday, ten journalists have been confirmed as being killed while carrying on their duties during Kashmiris’ ongoing liberation struggle since 1989. They included Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Mushtaq Ali, Ghulam Muhammad Lone, Ghulam Rasool Azad, Muhammad Shabaan Wakeel, Pervez Muhammad Sultan, Mushtaq Ahmad, Javed Ahmad and Aasyia Gilani.

Foreigners kidnapped by Al-Faran buried in south Kashmir: British journalists

Srinagar—British journalists Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark, whose latest book on Kashmir The Meadow that aims to demystify the fate of several Western hostages in 1995 Al Faran kidnapping case, have revealed that the grave of killed hostages may be in the Mati Gawran area close to Warwan in south Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district. They have claimed that intelligence agencies, including RAW and IB knew about the whereabouts of the hostages for almost the entire time they were in the Warwan Valley—some 10 or 11 weeks from mid July 1995.

Press Freedom Day observed

Mirpur—World Press Free-dom Day was observed across Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday with the unanimous emphasis for grant of complete freedom to the press around the globe in view of its exceptional impor-tance and responsible role in promoting a healthy society. Special ceremonies including rallies were held in various parts of AJK including the capital city of Muzaf-farabad, Mirpur and Rawalakot under the auspices of various jour-nalists organizations and press clubs to observe the day which provides an opportunity to the press to recount their outcomes over the previous years.
