Grand cleanliness drive launched in Pindi

Rawalpindi—1556 workers of Municipal Services Department along with other officials concerned have been deployed to clean city areas under grand cleanliness drive which is going on in full swing. Four UCs with several other areas of the city are being cleaned everyday in a bid to make the town, model city under a week long cleanliness campaign launched on April 26. More than 25 vehicles are also engaged to lift the garbage and waste from different areas on the same day.

Soul Searching through Art

Islamabad—The latest art exhibition at Rohtas Gallery that opened on Tuesday bring together captivating, and soul-searching artworks of three contemporary artists: Ahmed Ali Manganhar, Aqeel Solangi and Imran Channa. The group show, featuring as many as 15 paintings, has been aptly titled ‘Soul Searchers’ as all the artists aim to explore the human sensibilities using varied mediums including acrylic, charcoal and graphite on paper and on canvas.

Evening with poet Aftab at RAC

Rawalpindi—Rawalpindi Arts Council organized an evening with famous poet and intellectual of the country Aftab Ahmed Aftab which was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life including Naheed Manzoor and Resident Director Waqar Ahmed. Saleem Shahzad was the compare of the event. Aftab Ahmed Aftab received appreciation from the audience by reciting his tragic and comic poetry.

Thalassaemia Week starts today for awareness, prevention

Islamabad—The weeklong activities to create awareness among masses for prevention and treatment of the Thalassaemia disease and encourage patients to involve in normal life activities would start here from today (Wednesday). The Thalassaemia Week is being arranged by Thalassaemia Awareness and Protection in Pakistan (TAPP), Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan, Cure2Children, Jameela Sultana Foundation, Thalassaemia Welfare Society and some educational institutions of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

World Press Freedom Day on Thursday

Islamabad—World Press Freedom Day will be observed on May 3 across the world including Pakistan focuses on the importance of the freedom of the press and freedom of expression. World Press Freedom Day to inform the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights. This day reminds people that many journalists brave death or face jail to bring daily news to the public. World Press Freedom Day gives people the chance to pay tribute to media professionals who risked or lost their lives in the line of duty.

Knee injuries in women linked to motion, nervous system differences

WOMEN are more prone to knee injuries than men, and the findings of a new study suggest this may involve more than just differences in muscular and skeletal structure — it shows that males and females also differ in the way they transmit the nerve impulses that control muscle force. Scientists at Oregon State University found that men control nerve impulses similar to individuals trained for explosive muscle usage — like those of a sprinter — while the nerve impulses of women are more similar to those of an endurance-trained athlete, like a distance runner.

Mareer Chowk widening project to be started soon

Rawalpindi—Construction work on Mareer Chowk widening project would be started soon after the release of funds and final approval from the government as the PC-I of the project has been sent to the government. District Coordination Officer (DCO), Saqib Zafar said that the work on first phase of the mega project of Chur Chowk widening has been started which would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 475 million.

World Asthma Day observed

Islamabad—World Asthma Day observed on Tuesday May, 1 to improve asthma awareness and care around the world. The theme of World Asthma Day 2012 is “You Can Control Your Asthma.” Asthma control is the goal of treatment and can be achieved in the vast majority of the patients with proper management.
