Nawaz calls every Pakistani for participation ; Contacting ECP for decision

Islamabad—Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif warned the government either to follow the Supreme Court’s (SC) order in the Prime Minister contempt of court case or face a protest movement. “The movement will start this week. It will start today.” Speaking to the media on Monday after chairing the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Islamabad, Sharif recalled the Judges’ Restoration movement in 2009 and called on the people to show the same zeal to restore the rule of law in the country.

Sharifs derailing democracy: Gilani

Islamabad—Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Monday that the Sharifs were trying to destabilise democracy. Speaking on the floor of the Senate, the Prime Minister said he would not listen to the ‘Sharif Court’s’ and those calling him a convict should know that he has a full right to an appeal. Gilani said he was not the target rather the issue was the NRO. “I am not the beneficiary why pick on me.” He clarified that the reason he was being targeted was because he was protecting the constitution.

Armed Forces committed to Pak sovereignty: Gen Kayani

Rawalpindi—Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Armed Forces are committed to safeguarding the security and sovereignty of Pakistan. Addressing a solemn ceremony in connection with Martyrs Day here on Monday, he said, “we are protecting the sovereignty of the country with the support of the masses and this is our top priority”.

SC orders to present 3 missing persons till May 2

Karachi—Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry Monday said he has no interest in other cases; now, he will look into the case of missing persons round the clock and will go back to Islamabad after wrapping up the case.Heading a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) hearing case of missing persons at Quetta Registry, the Chief Justice Chaudhry directed Attorney General to sit with all departments including the FC to resolve the issue. He remarked the Inspector General of Police was not previously interested in the case; however, the case made headway after he (IG) showed interest.Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked a part of the country is on fire; but, no one cares a jot about it, adding, “I wonder what the government is up to.

Top al-Qaeda leaders still burrowing in Pakistan: US

Washington—Al-Qaeda’s top leaders, including its new chief of Ayman al-Zawahri, continue to ‘burrow’ in Pakistan’s tribal areas, President Barack Obama’s top counter terrorism adviser said vowing to bring them to justice like Osama bin Laden. Six more die in Lyari gun battle

Karachi—Six people were killed and 15 others wounded in separate incidents of firing in Karachi on Monday. Police continued their operation on the fourth day to restore peace in Lyari. New and heavy contingents of police were deployed in the city while assailants continued firing with advanced weapons. Three armored vehicles were damaged in the four-day operation. Due to the ongoing fighting between the police and assailants, severe shortage of food and electricity compelled the residents to shift to safer places.Meanwhile, protests were staged in different parts of Karachi against the operation in Lyari. The demonstrators demanded to end the operation in Lyari immediately.According to reports, tension and fear gripped several parts of the city, including Malir and old city areas.
