NBP meets 1250 online branches targetAmanullah Khan Karachi—National Bank of Pakistan has achieved yet another milestone of upgrading 1250 branches across the country with on-line facility. In a major achievement, National Bank of Pakistan has converted its 1250 branches online out of its countrywide network of 1270 branches. In a short span of 10 months NBP’s IT Division was able to meet this uphill task set by Bank’s management.
International LPG price dipsStaff Reporter Karachi—The international price (Saudi Aramco Contact Price) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been declined by $ 124 to $ 869.50 per ton for May 2012, creating hopes for a price cut in the domestic market. This was stated by the pattern-in-chief of All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association and chairman FPCCI Standing Committee on LPG Abdul Hadi Khan here on Monday.
LCCI urges govt to honour commitment of 5-day gas supplySalim Ahmed Lahore—The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Monday strongly reacted to SNGPL’s failure to honour its commitment regarding five days a week supply of gas to the industry in Punjab and urged the authorities to fulfill their promise. The LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that it was beyond the understanding of the business community that instead of ensuring of supply of gas to the industry in Punjab five days a week, a notification was issued that gas will be supplied for four days only.

Government to establish oil refinery in KPKIslamabad—In an apparent bid to reduce the inland freight and to bring investment in petroleum sector, ministry of petroleum and natural resources has decided to establish first oil refinery in the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. Well placed sources in the ministry told that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has showed its interest to install oil refinery in the province while provincial government of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa would provide land for the project.Circular debt renders thermal plants under utilizedKhalid Butt Lahore—New and efficient thermal plants are being utilized at less than half capacity due to notorious circular debt and non-payment by the government, resultantly the IPPs are bearing much higher cost for power generation. According to industry sources, delayed payment charges are being incurred by power purchaser due to delayed payment to IPPs, hence increasing the generation cost of electricity which can be reduced by timely payments to all IPPs.
