Ex-chairman PSM remanded to judicial custody

Karachi—A Karachi court has remanded Moin Aftab, former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to judicial custody till 27 January.

He was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farooq Sheikh on Saturday. The JM ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to submit challan before the court.

Earlier, the former chairman of Pakistan Steel Moin Aftab was presented before court on 13 January where he was remanded to FIA custody for ten days. FIA officials after getting clue about his presence at the house of his son-in-law in Khayaban-e-Taseer, DHA had arrested Moin Aftab in a raid. They had transferred former chairman steel mill to FIA Crime Branch for interrogation. Aftab has been booked in four cases of power abuse, bungling and Rs22 billion corruptions.

Moin Aftab was arrested along with his friend. Two other co-accused with Moin Aftab had also been granted bail. The services of former chairman of Pakistan Steel were terminated by prime minister on August 18, 2008. Aftab fled from Rawalpindi to Karachi and was hiding at the residence of his daughter in Defence. The FIA teams were also conducting raids for arrest of director and acting chairman of steel mills who had been co-accused in cases.

Moin Aftab was today produced by the FIA before the JM who after perusing the investigation papers, remanded the accused to judicial custody for five days directing the Investigating Officer to submit formal charge sheet against the accused by next date.
