Elahi asks govt to withdraw oil prices

Lahore—Business community, politicians and people hailing from different walks of life have rejected the increase in petroleum products prices and asked the government to withdraw the decision in the interest of people as well as industry. The former Punjab Chief Minister and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that increase in petroleum prices will bring fresh wave of price hike in the country that will burden the already depressed people.

Hoti condoles MPA death, condemns blast

Peshawar—NWFP Chief Minister, Amir Haider Hoti, while expressing heartfelt grief and sorrow over sad demise of ANP MPA, Shamsher Khan in a suicide attack, has strongly condemned the cowardice act of terrorism. In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said such act of suicide attacks cannot bow down government in its resolve of complete elimination of terrorism from the country.

Mirwaiz asks India to demilitarize

Muzaffarabad—Chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged New Delhi to take confidence building measures prior to initiation of dialogue process aimed at ending conflict in the region. “India should completely demilitarize the cities, towns and villages of Kashmir, Disturbed area act and other draconian laws should be repealed, release of political prisoners should be ensured and human rights violations should be stopped immediately,” media reports quoted Mirwaiz as saying.

Zahid asks people to ignore anti-govt propaganda

Hyderabad—Sindh Minister for Fisheries Zahid Bhurgari has called upon the people not to pay any heed to negative propaganda by those who are hatching conspiracies against the present democratic government but would soon fail in achieving their nefarious designs. The minister emphasized this while addressing Pakistan Khappey Rally, taken out here from Latifabad which after marching various routes culminated in front of Hyderabad Press Club.

Swiss satisfaction over military operation

Peshawar—The Minister of Netherlands for Development of International Relations, Barit Kondrus has expressed satisfaction over security arrangements and role of Pakistan army in Swat and Waziristan operations against militants. Addressing a press conference here at Jalozai on Monday evening, he said they respect the action of Pakistan army and para-military forces against the terrorists.
