Altaf welcomes Zardari’s gesture
Withholds party statements against PPP

Islamabad—Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid Altaf Hussain has appreciated the statement of President Asif Ali Zardari directing the leaders of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) not to issue statements against the MQM. In a statement issued here on Friday, Altaf Hussain said President’s statement augured well. Reciprocating to the statement, Altaf Hussain also advised MQM leaders to be highly cautious while issuing statements and act wisely for a turnaround from the present acerbic environment.

Observer grieved, staffer dies in accident

Islamabad—Senior Graphic Designer in the Art Section of Pakistan Observer, Mohammad Rafaqat died in a road accident Friday near Chakwal while driving to his hometown, Gojra for Eid-ul-Azha celebration. He was fatally injured and died in the hospital. He was 35 and left behind a widow and an infant daughter. His uncle Ghulam Mustafa Qamar accompanying him also died.

Pakistan, China mily cooperation irks India

New Delhi—India on Friday voiced ‘serious concern’ over what it termed a military nexus between its neighbours China and Pakistan, warning that New Delhi would try and match Beijing’s growing firepower. Defence Minister A.K. Antony said India hoped to improve fractious relations with regional countries but that it must remain vigilant about ties between Pakistan and China.

Anti-Taliban leader killed in Mohmand bomb attack

Islamabad—Bombers killed an anti-Taliban leader in Pakistan’s tribal belt where the military said a new operation killed 15 militants on Friday as insurgents expand their battles near the Afghan border. Shahpoor Khan, a key ally of Pakistan’s embattled authorities in the district of Bajaur was assassinated in a bomb attack as he returned home after saying prayers for Eid-ul-Azha, officials said.
