SBP set to establish Infrastructure Dev Bank: Raza

Karachi—Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Syed Salim Raza on Monday said the Central Bank is working on the establishment of Infrastructure Development Bank and Mortgage Refinance Company under Public-Private Partnership for the growth and development of infrastructure and housing sector in the country.

Argentina to promote Pak products: Envoy

Rawalpindi—Argentine Ambassador to Pakistan, Rodlfo J. Martine Monday said Argentina would promote Pakistani products in Argentina on priority basis and the two countries could come out of prevailing global economic recession with mutual understanding and cooperation.

Heavy selling clips values at KSE

Karachi—Heavy selling pulled down prices of leading scrips at Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) Monday as 100 Index plunged by 84.40 points to close at 9,221.96, dealers said. Rasheed Gohar, a dealer at a leading brokerage house said that market was weak since morning and went down to 9100 level on selling pressure.

Taiwan to curb China investment

Taipei—Taiwan plans to restrict Chinese stock investment in strategic sectors, as it seeks to keep control of its economy amid rapidly growing ties with the mainland, local media said Monday. Chinese institutional investors will be allowed to hold no more than a total of 10 percent in listed companies in the telecommunications, aviation and finance industries, the Commercial Times reported, citing unnamed sources.

Brown urges stronger China links to boost recovery

London —Prime Minister Gordon Brown, seeking to lift Britain out of a record recession as he battles to stay in power, urged stronger trade links with China in a speech to business leaders on Monday. Brown, whose Labour government is expected to lose a general election due by mid-2010, unveiled his “new growth strategy” at the annual conference of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
