Peshawar—NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani
underlined the need for further invigorating the
Hepatitis Control Program in FATA. “Hepatitis is
one of the fast spreading diseases and needed to
be controlled up to every possible extent,” he
said. While appreciating the program, he wished
to witness on ground and practical
implementation on the program more vigorously
and with strengthened facilities.
Hyderabad—The
Governor’s Monitoring and Inspection Team,
headed by Aftab Lodhi, Special Secretary to
Governor/Chancellor of the Universities visited
Liaquat University of Medical and Health
Sciences Jamshoro the other day. The team, also
comprising Fazeelat Mehdi Deputy Secretary and
Afsheen Research Officer held meeting with the
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Naushad Ahmed
Shaikh, who briefed them about the security
measures adopted by the university management.
Mirpur—After the recent abortive
attempt of subversion and major mass destruction
in the capital city Muzaffarabad of AJK by three
militants who blew themselves up after being
chased by the police on Saturday, the security
has been put on high alert across AJK to
frustrate any attempt of subversion and
terrorism by the militants, official sources
said. The overall law and order situation in
entire Azad Jammu Kashmir including Mirpur
district is under full control, the sources told
APP here Monday.
Karachi—The
World Health Organization (WHO) and the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has
announced the launch of a joint programme on
cancer control, aimed at strengthening and
accelerating efforts to fight cancer in the
developing world. The initiative reflected
growing international concern over cancer as one
of the leading causes of death worldwide. Cancer
had accounted for 7.4 million deaths in 2004
(around 13% of all deaths), while in low and
middle income countries, cancer overwhelmingly
affects the poor with huge implications for
human suffering, health systems, health budgets
and the drive to reduce poverty.
Mirpur—The
British Council (BC) is expanding its programmes
into the Mirpur division of Azad Jammu and
Kashmir (AJK) in Pakistan, with the aim of
strengthening community cohesion and developing
skills and cooperation for young people with the
UK and inaugural program for onward execution of
the project will be held at Mirpur university of
science and technology here on Tuesday (today-
November 24), Project Managefr of the British
Council Yasir Khan disclosed.
