Pak woman healthcare specialist honoured

Lahore—A prominent woman healthcare specialist from Pakistan Dr Noreen Zafar has been awarded the prestigious John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award.

The award was conferred on Dr Noreen along with other recipients at the National Quality Forum’s Annual Policy Conference Beyond Measures “The Quality Imperative Healthcare Reform held at the National Harbour, Maryland, in the USA.

The patient safety awards prgramme was launched in 2002 by National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission to honour Dr. John M. Eisenberg, former administrator of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

The awards were given in five categories nationally and new international category has been introduced this year and Dr Noreen Zafar has earned the distinction of becoming the inaugural international category award winner.

Dr Noreen, who is also the Founder and the President of the Girls and Women Health Initiatives (GWHI), has been conferred the inaugural award in the International category for her vision to offer quality gynecological care and empower women to become good decision makers regarding their own health and their family’s health.

The announcement by the Joint Commission and the National Quality Forum said “Dr Zafar has worked independently to promote wellness among girls and women, without government or any other support. She has overcome many social taboos in her quest and has established health awareness programmes related to pre-cancer screening, teenage gynecological health , and reproductive health.”
