Islamabad—The government is working on nine
point economic reforms agenda to strengthen
economy and increase GDP growth rate which has
been projected 3.3 percent during the current
financial year, the National Assembly was told
on Friday.
Lahore—Though the annual demand for tyres in the
domestic market is over 6 million but it local
industry with only 2.5 million tyre production
capacities is operating much below capacity due
to influx of smuggled and under-invoiced foreign
brands. This was stated by Shahid Hussain CEO of
a leading tyre manufacturing company of Pakistan
while apprising the members of the Lahore
Economic Journalists Association about the state
of tyre industry in Pakistan at LCCI auditorium
on Friday.
Bahawalpur—The Government is
taking steps for the uplift of industrial sector
and in this connection, all available resources
would be utilized to achieve the objective.
Industries are playing a pivotal role in
strengthening the economy of Pakistan and the
government is making efforts to bring progress
to this sector on war footings.
Islamabad—Pakistan Telecommunication Authority
(PTA) completed the advanced IT training to
enhance the IT skills of its officials including
lower cadre staff. As many as 175 officials
including 103 staff members at Headquarters, 40
Qasid/Naib Qasid and 32 officials at its Zonal
Officer, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and
Rawalpindi were trained under this programme.
Advance IT Training Programme 2009 covered
training areas like Basic Programme, Network,
Trouble Shooting, MS Office, Software and
Advanced Applications.
Singapore—The
global economy faces serious hurdles next year
including ‘large-scale’ unemployment in rich
nations, asset bubbles, and backsliding towards
protectionism, the World Bank chief said on
Friday. In a sobering assessment of the fragile
status of the economic recovery, Robert Zoellick
outlined a list of potential pitfalls to a
business forum on the sidelines of an
Asia-Pacific summit. “The reason I am flagging
this issue is that we are in the stage of
recovery where confidence is very important,” he
said.
