Fighting for what they don’t have

Dr Irfan Zafar

In the decisive Battle of Waterloo (1815) forces of the French Empire under Napoleon Bonaparte were defeated by those of the Anglo-Allied army under the command of Duke of Wellington. Duke of Wellington addressing Napoleon Bonaparte said “You French are fighting for the land and we on the other hand are fighting for Honour and Glory”. To this Napoleon Bonaparte replied “One fights for thing one doesn’t have”. The fight between PML (N) and the PPP is following the same pattern for one doesnt have land (Government) and the other Honour & Glory.—Islamabad

Shadow of Hindu terror

Qudrat Ullah

India, the 7th largest country by its geographical area is controlled by a tiny fundamentalist community called Brahman. Although, claiming to be the world’s largest democracy and the 2nd most populous nation in the whole world, India is a conspicuous symbol of religion based terrorism. Their centuries old socio-religious norms of hatred and minorities’ genocide make India a neo-Nazi of 21st century. While claiming to be secular and democratic, the Indian government has given new meanings to state sponsored violence, with its innovative approach towards minorities’ persecution as a state policy.

In his manifesto ‘We, Our Nationhood Defined’ (1939), Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, Supreme Director of the RSS from 1940 to 1973, said that Hindus could profit from the example of the Nazis, who had manifested race pride at its highest by purging Germany of the Jews. He said the foreign races in Hindustan must either adopt the Hindu culture and language, they must respect and hold in reverence Hindu religion, must entertain no ideas but those of glorification of the Hindu race and culture, or may stay in the country, wholly subordinated to the Hindu nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges. This is true portrayal of Hindu mind.

Of the 1139.96 million total Indian population, mainly consists of well over 800 million Hindus (80.5%), Muslims (13.4%), Christians (2.3%), Sikhs (1.9%), Buddhists (0.8%), and Jains (0.4%); while Jews, Zoroastrians, Baha’is and other minority ethnic groups are roughly 8.1% of the total population. For the last 62 years since 1947 when India got independence from the British, its minorities are living in a constant state of fear & reprisal and their persecution by various state agencies and zealot Hindu organizations like the RSS, has become a major state policy, as major resource mobilization and policy planning is done by fanatic Brahmans. Therefore, there are practically no chances of minorities’ welfare and development.

The violent attacks on Indian Muslims are part of a concerted campaign of assorted Hindu terror organizations for promoting and exploiting communal tensions to further the Hindutva’s political rule. BJP is an important socio-political movement which is supported by Hindu militant groups that function with total protection and under the patronage of the state. These groups are directly responsible for bloodshed against innocent Muslims in Gujarat including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Bajrang Dal, the BJP, and the umbrella organization Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh, all of whom collectively form the Sangh Parivar. These organizations, although different in many respects, have all promoted the argument that because Hindus constitute the majority of Indians, therefore, it should be a Hindus State.

Pakistan, being an enduring hurdle in the designs of extremist Brahman elite, is a particular itch for them. Hindu history proves that they try to win through conspiracies and espionage what they cannot win in open war wares, therefore; Indian government and its various terror sponsoring agencies are waging a constant war of terrorism and destruction in Pakistan, in connivance with some fifth columnists. Experts have divulged that as many as 40 different training camps at Rajasthan, East Punjab, Indian occupied Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of India are run by RAW’s Special Service Bureau to sponsor terrorism in Pakistan and other regional countries. RAW is also sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan through its various ‘consulate offices’ set up in bordering areas in Afghanistan to excel its sabotage activities in Pakistan. Therefore, the nation needs to remain alert of Hindu terrorists in guise of Taliban. —Lahore

Foreign hand in Balochistan

Sattar Baloch

Balochistan, has been in a grip of foreign sponsored sporadic acts of terror. Most active in the province has been the Indian intelligence agency ‘RAW’ which wanted to open a second front in a bid to divert the government focus from FATA where it has invested hugely in fanning the militancy. There are other foreign agencies operating in Balochistan besides the Indian one. There unequivocal support to the failed and irrelevant militant Baloch leaders, who enjoy superior authority over Baloch, has been immense. These agencies thrive by exploiting the colonial mind sets of these leaders to destabilize the province.

The daily target killing of non-locals leads to indicate the foreign involvement to create miss-understanding between Baloch and Punjabis and also escalate the hatred between two nations. The same game plan ne of East-Bengal is applying inside Balochistan to destabilize Pakistan. Couple a month more then 30 persons have been killed most of them were teachers; the situation inside Balochistan is going to worse. For India, Balochistan has been another soft target in its bid to destabilize Pakistan. Whereas India fuels the militancy in Pakistan’s North Western and FATA through a series of Consulates along the Pakistan borders, it sponsors Balochistan Liberation Front, Balochistan Republican Army and Baloch Liberation Army through its Consulates located at Zahedan and Mazar in Iran and Kabul in Afghanistan. Not only these Consulates provide funding and guidance to the insurgents in Balochistan they also provide explosives and weapons for terror activities inside the province.

What is wrong in Balochistan is due to foreign involvement and recklessness of our federal government. It is obligatory that the federal government should give more opportunities of development in Balochistan. The FC should be deployed on Afghan border rather then cities. Levies force and police should take the control. It is humbly requested to Baloch brothers to create tolerance and respect the law and order inside province. Unfortunately the whole system of government is in the hand of corrupt leaders, that is why our enemy is taking the advantages, we must reform and look into our self. The daily target killings of the innocent locals have become a sensitive issue in Balochistan. The Indian Agencies are involved to kill the innocent people to fuel the situation more hazardous. It is true that past governments were responsible for the present situation in Balochistan and India is just exploiting the bad situation. The Baloch public should not expect any compassion from these so called leaders and Sardars.

The greatest sin of our rulers has been that they have never tried to better the economic and political conditions in Balochistan despite repeated promises from them since the creation of Pakistan. Balochistan remains the most neglected province and 88 per cent of its population lives in miserable conditions. It is important to remove the mistrust between the Baloch and the Federation by adopting Confidence Building Measures coupled with cessation of all violent activities from both sides. After creating a positive environment, the negotiation on actual demands for Baloch rights should begin. The opportunity of Jobs must be created for the Baloch young educated people and the question of deprivation must be removed. However, there is a need to identify the Baloch representatives who can influence the outcome of any negotiation. Equally important is the identification of Indian designs of targeting development activities in Balochistan. —Via email

Indian civil calendar

Zahid Rashid

Farmers in slum area of Punjab and Azad Jummu & Kashmir use Indian civil calendar to sow the seed and cut crops in harvest. All the ritual festivals, seasons in the year, change of weather, possibility of rain snow falling, cold nights and hot days and even the birth of a child counted from Indian civil calendar. People from villages especially those who lived in undivided India are well aware of the date and month but even they do not know exactly where this century starts and why we write this ( BS) with year name like we have 2066 B now a days. There are few people who know about this calendar and the exact date and month of this year.

Bikram samwat (BS) or Vikram samwat is the calendar established by Indian Emperor Vikramaditya. Vikramaditya. (102 BC to 15 AD) was the king of Ujjain, an ancient city of Malwa in central India. It is said that Bikram samwat was originated by Tuar Rajput Vikramaditya Invaded Ujjain and drove away the Sakas. The original Vikramaditya (56 BCE to 58 BCE). Rule start from Ujjain .The King was famous for his wisdom, velour and majesty. The increasing common naming of Hindu children by the name of Vikram can be attributed in the part of Vikramaditya.

Bikram samwat is very popular in India and the official calendar of the Nepal, though Gregorian and original Nepalese calendar are also used in Nepal.. The Western or Gregorian year based on the sun in which a year is the time required for the earth to complete its orbit around sun. Bikram samwat (BS) year is based on sun and moon both. It is a solar calendar based on ancient Hindu tradition. This calendar is 56.7 year ahead of Gregorian calendar .In Bikram samwat calendar season follow the sun month follow the moon and days both the sun and the moon.

Numbers of days in a month of Bikram samwat year are thirty and thirty one, even in Nepal there are 2 month with 32 days, but actually it is not exist in original calendar. The months in Indian civil calendar and there equivalent days in Western calendar are like this .Caitra is the month with 30 days and its start from 22 march in western calendar. Vaisaka , Jyaistha , Asadha ,Sravana and Bhadra are consist of 31 days and started with April 21, May 22 June 22 July 23 Respectively. Months like Asvina, Kartika, Agrahayana, Pusa, Magha and Phalguna are consist of 30 days and their equalance in western calendar are August 23 , September 23, October 23, November 22, December 22 January 21 and February 20.

The Indian civil calendar uses seven days week system like most of the world in other calendars as well. In this calendar we have the days name like this Ravaare, For Sunday, Somavara stands for Monday, Mangalva for Tuesday , Budhavara for Wednesday Guruva stands for Thursday Sukravar and Sanivar for Friday and Saturday respectively.—Rawalpindi

Lessons from Berlin Wall

Khalid A

Berlin Wall came down crashing 20 years ago,on 10th Nov 1989. This event changed the world for ever. Journalists report that Mrs Thatcher was very anxious that the West should not display excessive jubilation that may backfire. She advised France and Germany to maintain restraint, Mr Gorbachov also privately urged restraint, fearing a coupe.

We should learn some important political lessons from the above. Excessive jubilation displayed when one’s opponent is suffering from a political disadvantage, is always counterproductive. One may recall P M Gilani’s negotiations with Manmohan Singh in Sharm-al-Shaikh. Our boisterous celebrations made it difficult for Manmohan Singh to continue on the path of appeasement. There were other similar episodes during 1965 war and Kargil misadventure. We must not rub political salt on opponent’s wounds, yet we can quietly pocket the ‘prize money’.—London, UK
