elections were free, fair and transparent.
“Extraordinary security was provided to
candidates of different political parties
contesting elections in Gilgit-Baltistan and
there was no information of clash during the

Peshawar—The US Government Thursday donated
worth 430,000 US dollars emergency medical
equipment to Hospitals of the NWFP. U.S.
Representative John Tierney said at a handover
ceremony to NWFP Minister of Social Welfare here
at the Officers Mess. The urgently needed
medical equipment will replenish and expand
medical stocks at large hospitals in areas
particularly prone to mass casualty incidents,
he added. “No hospital can mitigate the tragedy
of a suicide bombing, but a well-supplied
medical center can help reduce the loss of
life,” he said.

Akhtar Ali Shah has said that security was put
on high alert in the region in the wake of
suicide blasts in Peshawar and Charsadda and
foolproof security measures have been taken to
ward off any terrorist acts. Giving briefing on
the security arrangements in the Mardan Region
at the Central Police Line in Peshawar on
Thursday, Syed Akhtar Ali Shah said that 30
special commando contingents of police force
have been formed in Mardan and Swabi districts
with a view to ensure foolproof security and
thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists. He
said that check posts have been set-up at all
the entry and exit points of the districts and
strict checking of vehicles was being carried
out to avoid any untoward situation.
Multan—A woman was serioulsy injured when her
brother allegedly threw acid on her in Kutchery
premises here Thursday, police said. According
to details, Razia r/o 17-Kassi had been living
in Darul Aman for the last two months due to
strained relations with her husband and had
filed a suit against him. Thursday morning, she
reached the district courts to attend the
hearing of her case when her brother Waqas
stopped her outside the court and asked her to
reach a compromise with her husband.
