Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has emphasised
the need for keeping Disaster Management Program
as an effective tool for the whole province. In
this regard he issued necessary directives for
working under a clear line of action in every
field of operation.The issue came under
discussion at a high level meeting held at
Governor House at which the Chairman National
Disaster Management Authority, Lt Gen (Rtd)
Farooq Ahmed Khan apprised the Governor about
the steps taken in this direction.
Karachi—Child Rights
Protection Committee, Pediatrics Department,
Civil Hospital, Karachi in collaboration with
local NGOs Konpal and Aahang will launch the
first help line service for children subjected
to abuse and their respective families on
Friday. Prof. Ayesha Mehnaz, Chairperson, CPRC,
Civil Hospital told APP on Thursday that the
facility manned by qualified psychologists and
counsellors will remain operational from 9 a.m
to 5 p.m daily.
Karachi—All the 18 Towns in Karachi finalised
arrangements for lifting and disposal of offals
of sacrificial animals on all the three days of
Eid-ul-Azha. All the Towns have announced
cancellation of leave of staff of concerned
departments on the occasion while their offices
would be converted into complaint centres on Eid
days. On the directive of City Nazim Mustafa
Kamal, the Towns have chalked out fool proof
plans for removal of offals and maintenance of
cleanliness during Eid days.
Karachi—Mrs. Perveez Dastur, one of
the senior most classical, light and traditional
folk singers of Pakistan Broadcasting
Corporation, passed away in Karachi recently,
her family announced here on Thursday. She was
about 86 years of age and died of cardiac
arrest, it was further stated. She was mother of
Ms. Yasmin Dastur, the Vice-President of All
Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) Central.
Karachi—As elsewhere, the World Diabetes Day
is being marked here as well on November 14 as a
part of an awareness campaign and global theme
of ‘Diabetes - Education and Prevention’. An
announcement here on Thursday said that
Diabetes, a global threat, kills one person
every ten seconds globally. It said that as per
the International Diabetes Federation estimate
Pakistan has the seventh largest diabetic
population in the world and by 2025 it will be
the fourth largest in the world, if measures to
control it are not taken.
