Senate body directs strict schools security

Islamabad—The Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Education Senator S. M. Zafar Thursday directed the Ministry of Education to take foolproof measures, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, for ensuring and enhancing security of the educational institutions of Federal Government in view of the prevailing security environment in the country. The committee which met here at the Parliament House took cognizance of the media reports regarding unwarranted increase in monthly fee by some of the private schools in the name of additional security, and instructed the Ministry to take up the matter with management of such schools and bring an end to this unhealthy practice immediately.

Senate panel wants cancellation of illegal quarters allotments

Islamabad—The members of National Assembly Standing Committee on House & Library Thursday took serious notice of the absence of Chairman CDA from the meeting and directed to ensure his presence in the next meeting of the committee. Moreover, the members of the committee expressed reservations about unauthorized and illegal occupation of servant quarters and lobbies in the parliament lodges.These reservations were expressed at a meeting held here at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker. The members were of the view that illegal occupants were posing severe threat to the security of the parliament lodges.

PR launches special Eid operations

Islamabad—With Eid-ul-Azha about two weeks away, Pakistan Railways has launched online reservation to facilitate the passengers leaving for their hometowns to celebrate the religious festival with dear ones. The preparations have been finalised to fully facilitate thousands of passengers, however the final decision regarding number of special trains and attachment of extra boggies will be taken from the headquarters in Lahore,” an official told APP here on Thursday. He said a comprehensive strategy has been chalked out to cope with the Eid rush as millions would leave for Eid celebrations after November 15. Under the plan, additional coaches would be attached with local and express trains besides launching special Eid trains.

World Diabetes Day

Islamabad—World Diabetic Day will be observed on Saturday to raise awareness about the disease, related complications and prevention from the illness. According to World Health Organization (WHO), more than 180 million people worldwide have diabetes and this number is likely to more than double by 2030. It said, almost 80% of diabetes deaths occur in low and middle-income countries.

LG strengthens democratic system: Danyal

Islamabad—While highlighting the importance of Local Government System (LG), the main architect of local body system Danyal Aziz Thursday correlated it’s strengthening with the development of entire political system in the country that overruled the bureaucracy and caused justice to people at their doorstep. Without local body system functional, democracy can’t take roots”, he said while addressing a seminar on LG system organized by SDPI here. He added that LG system is credited to separate executive from Judiciary which is a clear-cut assurance of restoration of political culture in the country.
