Peshawar—Director Public Relations Iranian
Consulate in Peshawar, Ab-ul-Hassan Jeffery was
shot dead by unknown armed men near his house at
posh location Gulbarg in cantonment area here on
Thursday. Rated among the veteran
journalists of Peshawar, late Jeffery also
served Pakistan Observer as senior reporter in
1992-93.
Gilgit-Baltistan—Pakistan People’s Party is
heading towards landslide victory in
Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly election.
According to unofficial results of 15
constituencies announced so far, Pakistan
People’s Party got 10 seats, PML-N two, MQM one
and JUI-F one. One Independent candidate was
declared successful.
Islamabad—The Quaid of Pakistan Muslim League-N
Mian Nawaz Sharif said here on Thursday that he
had held wide-ranging discussions with Prime
Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here on
Thursday on various issues, including a
development package being prepared for
Balochistan by the government, scrapping the
President’s sweeping powers and implementing the
Charter of Democracy signed by the PPP and PML-N
in 2006.
Peshawar—The security forces and the militants
or the local Taliban were reported to be locked
in fierce battle in parts of South Waziristan
agency as the Operation Rah-e-Nijat entered 27th
day. 22 miscreants were gunned down during shoot
outs with the forces mainly in Langar Khel area,
the security forces also suffered losses as five
men in uniform embraced Shahadat and eight
others sustained serious wounds.
Islamabad—As many as Sixty-two individuals
including 13 politicians are beneficiaries of
National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO),
according to a list issued by National
Accountability Bureau (NAB). The list received
by Law Ministry includes the names of 13
politicians including those of Pakistan Peoples
Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
Karachi—Karachi police have apprehended seven
suspected terrorists belonging to banned outfit
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, an alliance of
factions accused of carrying out attacks, in
urban areas and facing army assault on their
South Waziristan stronghold on the Afghan
border.
